Here goes the Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on video

by 112 comments

We’ve been enjoying the company of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while now and we finally managed to convince it to pose for a quick video for our camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a really impressive device that manages to top just about every smartphone in the world where it counts. Compared to the HTC One it features a larger 1080p Super AMOLED display, a higher-res 13 MP camera of great quality, expandable storage, bigger battery, a higher-clocked Snapdragon 600 CPU (or the Exynos 5 Octa with 4 Cortex-A15 cores inside) and manages to pull it off in an body that’s actually smaller. There’s much to like about the One. It’s HTC pulling all the stops and putting it all on the line against competition from Samsung, LG and Sony among others. Read more »

LG Optimus G Pro flaunts its expansive screen and new features in our office

by 59 comments

The LG Optimus G Pro is the current king of phablets – other phablets couldn’t put up much of a fight against the 5.5” 1080p screen or the Snapdragon 600 chipset. The phablet market exploded after the first Galaxy Note came around and quickly went from niche to millions of units and LG has engineered the Optimus G Pro to be the best in that field.

The screen is pretty amazing – it has excellent viewing angles (better than the Optimus G screen) and great colors. Read more »

We put the LG Optimus G Pro display head-to-head with the Super AMOLED on the Galaxy S III

by 66 comments

Whilst here at LG’s booth on the MWC 2013 floor we had enough time to check out the LG Optimus G Pro from every angle.

So, the screen junkies that we are, we decided to get out the Galaxy S III and put its Super AMOLED 720p screen next to the True HD-IPS+ 1080p LCD of the G Pro. Read more »

Here are the first samples from the HTC One Ultrapixel camera

by 179 comments

In one of the bravest moves in smartphone history, HTC gave up on the megapixel war and decided to equip its latest smartphone with a 4 MP snapper at the back. The low resolution allowed each individual pixel to be much larger, which improves per-pixel detail and low-light performance significantly. So even though the HTC One sensor measures a modest 1/3″ in diagonal, each of its 4 million Ultrapixels (as HTC calls them) is much larger than that of the average smartphone (by about 300%).

So in theory, while you will be sacrificing some detail in well-lit environments, you should be getting better low-light results. Add the super bright F/2.0 lens and you should be getting the smartphone with the best low-light performance in business. And since you would be downsizing many of your images anyway, this seems like a fair trade to us. As long as the HTC One delivers on those promises, that is. Read more »

HTC One benchmark scores are here, ready to blow your mind

by 124 comments

The HTC One comes with a brand new Snapdragon 600 chipset, which is the first to offer four 1.7GHz Krait CPU cores and we were pretty curious to find how much of a performance boost it brings.

To be honest we were taken by surprise by the HTC One processing prowess. We did expect it to deliver some of the best performance out there, but some of the scores were simply amazing. Read more »

BlackBerry Z10 arrives at our office, gives a presentation on the platform’s future

by 139 comments

The BlackBerry Z10 represents a major step forward for the company (formerly RIM, now just BlackBerry). We put it in front of our camera almost as soon as we pried it out of its box. We couldn’t help it but share with you the first glimpse of how well a touch-only BlackBerry of the new generation will handle, considering the unflattering response that the Storm and the Torch got.

One thing is immediately clear – the BlackBerry Z10 is far removed from the Storm, both in terms of hardware and in software. Read more »

Samsung Ativ Odyssey made a trip to our office, here is a hands-on

by 43 comments

For some reason, Samsung decided not to bring its Ativ S Windows Phone 8 flagship to the United States. Instead, the Korean giant released the Verizon Exclusive, LTE toting, and seriously pocketable Samsung Ativ Odyssey.

The Samsung Ativ Odyssey looks and feels a lot like a mini version of the Ativ S. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. Read more »
