Samsung Galaxy S4 Wireless Charging Pad and Wireless Charging Cover review

by 140 comments

Samsung made a big splash in the smartphone pond with the announcement of the Galaxy S4, but that doesn’t mean the company is going to stop there. The company also unveiled a plethora of accessories that expand the functionality of the beast smartphone even further. And as luck would have it we just got one of the more buzz-generating among them in our office – meet the Samsung Galaxy S4 Wireless Charging Pad.

Eager to catch up with its domestic rival LG and the traction-gaining Finns at Nokia, the Galaxy S4 sports wireless charging capability, as well. However, instead of having the feature built it (which would have made the smartphone thicker for everyone), wireless charging comes in the form of an optional accessory kit, which features a different back cover and the charging pad. How to take better shots with your Sony Xperia Z? Use Burst mode!

by 79 comments

Through the last couple of days we received numerous tips that Sony’s Xperia Z Burst Mode takes pictures with better quality than the ones snapped when using the default Normal or Superior Auto setups.

We decided to look into that and gave the Burst Mode a proper try. The results came out quite surprising (or not, if you have read those threads discussing the issue) – the Burst mode shots are quite different from those produced in Normal and Superior Auto mode. It’s obvious that the post processing applied to the different camera modes is quite different, but surprisingly, we like the Burst mode output better. Read more »

Check out the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 hands-on video while we cook up the review

by 33 comments

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 leaked so many times prior to its announcement late last month, that it’s almost yesterday’s news.

Nevertheless, we’ve been busy putting it through our gauntlet of testing, and will give you a quick look at what’s in store for you from Samsung’s latest tablet offering.

The Note 8.0 is set to compete directly with Apple’s iPad mini, and is spec’d competitively enough to do just that. It offers a (you guessed it) 8-inch screen of 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, which results in 189 ppi. It has a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos 4412 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. Read more »

Here goes the Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on video

by 112 comments

We’ve been enjoying the company of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while now and we finally managed to convince it to pose for a quick video for our camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a really impressive device that manages to top just about every smartphone in the world where it counts. Compared to the HTC One it features a larger 1080p Super AMOLED display, a higher-res 13 MP camera of great quality, expandable storage, bigger battery, a higher-clocked Snapdragon 600 CPU (or the Exynos 5 Octa with 4 Cortex-A15 cores inside) and manages to pull it off in an body that’s actually smaller. Samsung Galaxy S4 battery life tests are done, here’s how it did

by 213 comments

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is about the same size and weight as the Galaxy S III, except that the new model is slightly thinner. Even so, the battery capacity has increased by 500mAh to a nicely sounding 2,600mAh total.

Still, that battery has to feed four Krait 300 cores and a bigger screen with over twice the number of pixels. Let’s see how the 2013 flagship from Samsung compares to the one from 2012. Before we continue, we should make it clear that we’re using the I9505 for this test, that’s the Snapdragon 600 chipset and not the Exynos 5 Octa. Read more »

The Galaxy S 4 is now official, and Samsung has set its eyes on the Android throne once again, ambitiously aiming to beat the records set by the Galaxy S III.

The competition for Samsung this year is a lot tougher than it was in 2012, though. Early in the year, Sony unveiled the breathtaking Xperia Z and set up the rules of the 5″ smartphone game. HTC One vs Sony Xperia Z quick camera shootout: Is less more?

by 176 comments

HTC One has just arrived at our office and is here to stay for a review. The HTC flagship is supposed to feature some advanced camera tech behind those 4 million+ ultrapixels, so the first thing we did was a quick impromptu shootout.

Unlike most of its competitors, the HTC One bets on fewer, but bigger size pixels on its image sensor, rather than many tiny ones. In theory this should allow it to shoot photos that have less digital noise and more dynamic range. But of course, you have got to remember that when you downsize a say, 13MP photo down to 4MP it also visibly decreases the digital noise.

Anyway, we would refrain from passing a judgement at this stage (we’ll save that for the full-featured review), but here are several comparison shots of the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z, which has a rather densely packed 13MP camera sensor, featuring one of the smallest pixel sizes currently used in flagship products. ‘Temple Run: Oz’ for iOS and Android game review

by 33 comments

The original Temple Run hit iOS back in 2011. The game was an instant success, reaching the top of charts around the world. It arrived on the Play Store last year and saw similar response from Android users as well.

It was also last year when Imangi released Temple Run: Brave, a variation of the original game made in collaboration with Disney for their movie ‘Brave’. It featured a new character and different level design but was essentially the old game in a new wrapper. But earlier this year, Imangi released Temple Run 2 that brought with it completely redesigned visuals and some new gameplay mechanics.

Now, shortly after the release of Temple Run 2, the developers have released Temple Run: Oz. Like Temple Run: Brave before it, Temple Run: Oz is based on an upcoming Disney movie, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ and carries forward the visual and gameplay enhancements from Temple Run 2 but with new level designs keeping with the theme of the movie. Let’s see how this latest installment has turned out. Read more »

by 99 comments

The LG Optimus G Pro brings several upgrades over the regular Optimus G, including a big 3,140mAh battery, but also a new screen and updated chipset. Let’s find out if the increase in battery capacity offsets the higher power demands of the screen, which is both bigger and higher res.

Before we go on, we’d like to note that our Optimus G Pro review unit (which came from Korea) has a spare battery and a battery charger/phone stand in the box. The international version might not have these goodies. Read more »
