Barnes & Noble launches new Nook Glowlight

Barnes & Noble has launched an updated version of the Nook Glowlight e-reader. Aimed to directly compete with Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite, the new Nook Glowlight is a notable improvement over its predecessor in almost every way imaginable.

For starters, the updated Nook Glowlight is lighter, tipping the scales at just 175 grams – in comparison, the Kindle Paperwhite weighs 213 grams. B&N has also managed to get rid of the annoying screen flashes that trouble other eBook readers.. Read more »

Amazon recently announced its new service, named Kindle MatchBook, and it has now gone live. MatchBook allows you to buy the Kindle editions of your print books for $2.99 or less.

Nook Simple Touch Glowlight has received a price cut in the UK and the eReader is now available for just £49 while stocks last. The Nook that comes with integrated lighting will be up for grabs across the UK, starting today.

Amazon launches next-gen Kindle Paperwhite, in the US at least

Amazon has announced the second generation model of last year’s Kindle Paperwhite. The update focuses on improving existing features instead of introducing something dramatically new.

First of all, the display has been improved. The e-paper display now features higher contrast and improved reflectivity so text looks clearer. Amazon is also using second generation of the backlighting that they introduced with the last year’s model, which is now improved, somehow. Read more »

Amazon introduces “Kindle Matchbook” – buy cheap e-book versions of print books you already have

Amazon has officially launched a new campaign, dubbed “Kindle Matchbook”, for its consumers. The newest introduction offers you to buy Kindle edition of print books that you had purchased from Amazon ever since it started its online bookstore.

The trick is that the deal is possible only for titles of books, whose publishers had enrolled them explicitly in the Kindle MatchBook program. At present, you can purchase over 10,000 books for $2.99, $1.99, $0.99 or free depending on the titles. Read more »

The downloads in the Amazon Appstore are up 500% from last year, which makes it the fastest growing app repository around.

Two Internet giants just opened their virtual storefronts in Brazil – Google brought Play with books and movies, while Amazon is offering digital books store. The basic Kindle reader will be going on sale soon too.

Kindle Paperwhite now up for pre-order in UK, France and Germany

The Kindle Paperwhite finally made it across the pond. Amazon UK, France and Germany are already accepting pre-orders. UK users however, will be getting it a good month in advance.

Amazon UK has a suggested shipping date of 25 Oct, while both Amazon DE and Amazon FR expect it to launch on 22 Nov. The custom Paperwhite Leather Cover, which is capable of activating the reader magnetically, will be available around the same time, but it’s priced at the rather steep £31/€35. Read more »
