Another member of the Nokia X family decided to pay our office a visit. The Nokia XL is the largest Android-powered member of the recently announced X-family of phones. Think of it as a grown-up Nokia X, as it packs a 5″ IPS LCD display of the same WVGA resolution as its smaller brother.
The Nokia XL features the same build materials and design as its smaller brother, but it’s notably heavier as you could expect. It weighs the rather hard to bare 190 grams and gives an almost tank-like impression. It really takes away portability points, though. Read more »
Here’s something you may not have known: 10 hidden features that weren’t really advertised in Samsung’s promotion of the Galaxy S5 have been released today.
All of the key selling points: its camera, dust and water resistance, and built-in heart rate monitor have been rightfully pimped in advertisements, but here’s a list of a few things you may not have known the Galaxy S5 was capable of. Read more »
Sony Mobile has officially released its Xperia Keyboard app on the Google Play Store. However, it appears that the only reason why Sony submitted it is so it can easily update it in the future, without having to release full firmware updates for that.
This means that the app is available across the globe, but is currently restricted to only Xperia smartphones. It’s unclear if the default keyboard of the Xperia smartphones will ever be officially released for other droids. Read more »
Flickr has released version 3.0 of the iOS and Android app that is a complete overhaul over the previous versions. To put it simply, it now looks like Instagram.
The update is available on both iOS and Android and for once we see no preference given to either platform, with both getting the latest update with a UI optimized for that particular platform (unlike Instagram). Read more »

The makers behind the popular benchmark AnTuTu have compiled statistics from their app to try and paint a picture of the global popularity of Android phones. The results show Samsung and Google Nexus have a huge presence and so does (surprisingly) Xiaomi.
It should be noted that 50% of the info for these statistics came from users based in China, which clearly skews the results. Read more »
The next generation Galaxy S Zoom device will be dubbed Galaxy K Zoom instead and will be unveiled in less than two weeks. The number of leaks for the K Zoom has been relatively low, but now the first alleged camera sample has appeared.
Update:It turns out that the photo is actually coming from a Sony H200 digicam and not the upcoming K Zoom smartphone and the EXIF has been modified. Move along people, there’s nothing to see here.
The EXIF info lists the device as Samsung SM-C115, in line with previous leaks. Read more »
Looking to strike a great deal on a mid-sized tablet? Well if you live in the UK you probably need to look no further than the LG G Pad 8.3. The slate, which we reviewed and really liked a while ago, can now be had for just £119.
Update: It appears the stock has been depleted rather quickly and the offer is currently unavailable. It’s unclear if there’s new stock on the way or if that was all about the promotion.
For the price you are getting an 8.3″ IPS LCD of 1200 x 1920 pixel resolution, a Snapdragon 600 chipset and a sleek metallic body that only weighs 338g. Even the Nexus 7 (2013) looks rather overpriced in comparison to this offer. Read more »

Sony announced its Xperia T2 Ultra in January and the phablet was designed specifically for Asian and African markets where the big screen smartphones are all the rage. We took the 6-inch device for a benchmark spin and stacked it up against some of its competition.

An update has been released to the YouTube app for Android that brings with it a couple of changes. The major addition is the ability to cast live videos to Chromecast. Live videos are, well, videos of events happening live and not pre-recorded and previously there was no way to watch this on Chromecast, which has been fixed now.
Other change is the updated Watch Later UI, which is now in tune with the design of the rest of the app. Read more »

Samsung’s ad campaign is going in full swing now that the Galaxy S5 and the new Gears are on sale. The latest ad is a colorful, sort-of psychedelic look of what the wearables and the new flagship phone can do for you throughout your day.
The ad really consists of 5 short segments with a common music, by the looks of it those are meant as short, separate spots. Read more »
Last year we saw that the iPhone 5s fingerprint scanner is not foolproof and can be bypassed by a “fingerprint spoof” – an artificial print created from wood glue and a photo of a latent fingerprint taken with a regular smartphone camera.
As it turns out, the Samsung Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner can be fooled by a spoof too – in fact, it was the same one previously used on the iPhone. Read more »
