You may be aware of the fact that the WhatsApp app was recently pulled from the Windows Marketplace as the developers are working on a new version of the multi-platform IM application.

The HTC Sense 4.0 UI on the new One X was a major improvement over the previous versions of the UI. HTC had toned down some of their previous design choices, which made the UI look more polished. But the performance was still lagging behind stock Ice Cream Sandwich UI and it can be seen while scrolling through homescreens and application drawer.

Thankfully, things are about to change when the next version of Sense UI hits the One X. The folks at Geeksaber have managed to get their hands on a leaked ROM containing the Sense 4.1 update and are saying that it makes a dramatic improvement to the performance. Read more »

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is an iOS and Android game that’s based roughly on the events in the 2012 movie of the same name. This version of the game came out around the same time as the PC and console version, but has different story and missions and has been developed by Gameloft instead of Activision.

The original Fieldrunners that came out almost four years ago was probably the first tower defense game on iOS. It was also a very good game, which is why even after all these years it remains one of the best games in the genre on the platform. And lots of other titles tried to steal that crown.

Everybody’s favorite endless running game Temple Run has completed one year since its launch on iOS. In this time, the game has been downloaded over 100 million times, including downloads on Android. People have played over 10 billion sessions so far and spent close to 54,000 years combined running from evil monkeys.

The game has also received an update on iOS, which brings the version number to 1.5. In this update, the game adds Retina display support for the iPad, along with 22 new objectives and a new powerup called PermaWings that can be enabled at the start of the level and stays on permanently until you die, at which point it automatically resurrects you. Metro has been Microsoft’s code name for the user interface that they debuted with the Zune HD back in 2009 and has been a major part of their UI design language in Windows Phone as well as the upcoming Windows 8 desktop operating system.

Well, the UI isn’t going anywhere but the name is. Microsoft has stopped using the Metro name for the UI effective immediately and has also asked the developers to stop using it in their apps. The reason for this sudden change is rumored to be due to legal issues with a German company over the name. Read more »

Google has released the latest version of the desktop Chrome browser, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.60. One of the two important features is the support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro. This feature was so far available on the beta version but now those who use the stable release can take advantage of it as well.

Another feature that was only available on the beta version before is support for a camera and microphone. Now thanks to addition of the getUserMedia API, websites will finally have access to your webcam (if you allow them), which will let you use services like Webcam Toy, Magic Xylophone and Sketchbots, to name a few. It seems Google has finally realized no one really wants a $300 bowling ball whose only real abilities are streaming your music and movies from the cloud while completely ignoring all the content on your Android smartphone or tablet and using them just as a glorified remote control.

So now they have done the sensible thing and suspended the launch of the device by removing it from the Play Store. Meanwhile, they are working on making it “do even more than it does today”, which is not much. Read more »

Microsoft has launched the new Outlook.com, which replaces the existing Hotmail webmail service. The new website makes good use of the Metro UI and also offers users to switch from their current @hotmail.com email addresses to @outlook.com addresses.

Upon opening the new website you’ll notice just how clean and uncluttered the UI is. In fact, it’s so minimalistic that at first glance you’d think you accidentally opened the mobile version of the website. Read more »

Facebook has revamped the photos view in your profile, which will now show up as a mosaic of different sized photos that roughly resembles the Metro UI on the Windows 8 homescreen. It also looks very similar to the way Google+ arranges images in its photos view.

The new photos view also puts all your pictures in one location. If you want to highlight certain images, you can click on the image and select the Highlight option, at which point that photo’s thumbnail will appear four times bigger than the others. Microsoft has revealed in its annual report filed this week that the anticipated Windows 8 based Surface tablet will be released along with the operating system on October 26.

So far we only knew that the tablet would go on sale sometime after the launch of the OS but it’s good to know that the tablet will also be releasing on the same day. Read more »

The Asphalt series of games are widely regarded as the best arcade racing games on mobile. They are often compared to the Need for Speed series on the consoles, which is a good thing as it is one of the best and most popular series of arcade racing games on any platform.

The latest iteration in the Asphalt series is Asphalt 7: Heat. The first time we got a glimpse of this game was in the promotional material for the Samsung Galaxy S III, although the game itself arrived on iOS first, as they usually do, and it’s only now after almost a months has it made an appearance on Android. We are no strangers to seeing movie tie-in games that come out shortly after the release of a big budget movie. But recently, these games have started appearing on mobile devices as well. We saw Temple Run: Brave, The Amazing Spider-man and now The Dark Knight Rises, releasing just weeks apart from each other.

Today we will be taking a look at The Dark Knight Rises, a game based on arguably the best movie that has come out this year so far. The movie had raised everyone’s expectations sky high and managed to meet and exceed most of them. On the contrary, no one is expecting anything from the Batman game and with the history of movie tie-in games it would be a surprise if it is any good. We decided to find out if that is the case. It’s been quite a while since Apple released ads for the Mac. All the recent memorable ads have either been for the iPhone or the iPad. In fact the last memorable ads for the Mac were the famous ‘Mac vs. PC’ series and it’s been three years since those came out. But now that Apple recently updated their MacBooks, they probably felt it was the right time to go ahead and make some new ads.

So now we have three new ads for the Mac that don’t concentrate on any particular model, but like the older ‘Mac vs. PC’ ads aim to glorify the Macs as a whole and all the features they have. They also fail spectacularly at doing that. Read more »

Couple of months ago we reported that HTC has released the kernel source code for the international HTC One X. Unfortunately, the AT&T version in the US was left out back then.
