Nokia showcasing phone NFC capabilities at WIMA 2011

by 494 comments

One of the latest additions to a smartphone’s arsenal seems to be the implementation of NFC (Near Field Communication). NFC is a short-range wireless communication technology that enables the exchange of data between devices over about a 10 cm distance. It’s an evolution of RFID and manufactures have been keen to see its use in phones with example like the Google Nexus already sporting an NFC chip.

Qwiki for iPad quick review: The fembot Encyclopedia

by 161 comments

Qwiki is a visual Wikipedia with quite stunning graphics, voice over and subtitles. It uses clever algorithms to mix articles with pictures, maps and infographics to make dynamic, hyperlinked presentation.

As a big fan of Flipboard for the iPad, the first reports on the multimedia rich Qwiki got me hooked right away. I was misled though, Qwiki is no Flipboard, in fact the only similarity between the two apps is the original idea behind them. Yeah, and that both are free.

However Qwiki is an interesting application on its own and you should definitely check out this video. Read more »

iOS 4.3.2 is out for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, Verizon iPhone users get iOS 4.2.7

by 29 comments

Less than a month after releasing iOS version 4.3.1, Apple is now pushing a 4.3.2 update. The update doesn’t bring anything major though, but it wouldn’t hurt to get it, since it packs the latest security fixes.

The CDMA iPhone (Verizon iPhone), while still far behind its GSM brother, got an update to version 4.2.7. It doesn’t really address the recent complaints users have with failing to connect to the 3G network, but rather includes the same security fixes as the 4.3.2 version. Read more »

Angry Birds getting Easter edition, syncing feature and Windows Phone 7 port

by 9 comments

Those birds are still angry, you know the ones I’m talking about. But it’s not because of lack of new content, features or platform support. Nope, Rovio is on top of that. Angry Birds will be celebrating a new Seasons edition soon, Easter, with 15 new levels. The birds will also be getting a syncing feature and will be landing on Windows Phone 7 in late May.

Easter should be a pretty important holiday for Angry Birds (what with all the eggs). We have some of the first screenshots. Read more »
