Motorola has already updated its Moto X 2nd Gen (2014) with the latest Android Lollipop build and we’ve decided to run our battery life tests again. Lollipop brings a number of improvements including a number of battery optimizations combined under what’s known as Project Volta.

In our previous tests with phones that recently got updated to Lollipop we weren’t able to determine a specific pattern in the change in battery life – some of the phones did better in talk time or web browsing, some did worse. The Google Play store for Android is about to receive an updated search bar. The new setup was teased by a Google UI engineer and is due to arrive in the near future.

On Android, Google Now serves as the virtual assistant Siri is on iOS and Cortana is on Windows Phone. Thus, Google Now can take voice commands and act on them. But up until recently that did not include toggling certain system settings – not directly, at least.

The good news is that as of this moment Google Now is in fact able to toggle your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections on or off, as well as the flashlight functionality enabled by your phone’s LED flash. The one caveat is that you need to be running Android 5.0 Lollipop. Read more »

Samsung is continuing its teaser campaign for the upcoming Galaxy S6. The third video in the series was released today. It follows the previous ones about the phone’s camera and performance.

This time around the short video is all about materials and shapes. So, given all the leaks and rumors we’ve seen lately, it kind of feels obvious that Samsung is teasing a metal build for the device. Samsung has commenced the roll out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop version updates for its Galaxy smartphones across the globe. Recently, Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with Lollipop update was pictured as well.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is testing the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for its premium Galaxy Tab S 10.5 tablet with large Super AMOLED display. This update is expected to arrive either in March or April. Read more »

IF This Then That, otherwise known as IFTTT, is an extremely useful service that lets you create and download ‘recipes’ that automatically performs a task for you when a preset event occurs.

The company has now changed its brand name from IFTTT to simply IF. It still performs the same basic functions, but just has a new name. Read more »

According to a USA Today report, YouTube is launching a new app for kids. Appropriately dubbed YouTube Kids, the free app will initially be available for Android devices only, and will be released on February 23.

As one would expect, the app contains kids-friendly interface with big, bulbous icons and minimal scrolling. Its home screen features eight large tiles, each focusing on a popular kid-friendly video series, as well as five icons at the top that’ll take kids to TV shows, music, educational programming, and top-ranking videos. Google has significantly expanded the reach of Inbox by Gmail, its experimental email app. From its launch point and up until now it was only usable on iPhones, Android smartphones, and on the Web in Chrome. But starting today, it’s made its way to many more places.

For starters, you can now use Inbox by Gmail on your iPad or Android tablet. Additionally, if you want to access the inbox.google.com interface from a Web browser, you get two more options. Read more »

Motorola treated the Moto 360 smartwatch to a minor firmware update. The latter bumps up the Android Wear version of the best selling Android Wear device to 5.0.2 and has a build number LWX49L.

A 4K slate with the freshly announced NVIDIA Tegra X1 chipset scored a whopping 74,977 points on AnTuTu. The score is the highest we’ve seen on the popular benchmark to date – the currently available top-tier mobile devices hover around the 50,000 mark.

NVIDIA Tegra X1 features octa-core CPU cluster, consisting of four Cortex A57 and four Cortex A53 cores with a custom CPU interconnect and cluster migration. On the GPU side, NVIDIA has turned to using its latest generation Maxwell architecture in a GPU with 256 CUDA cores. Read more »

But starting today, you can also immediately reply to conversations in some of the most popular Internet-based messaging apps.

So, once you update your Pushbullet app for Android to the latest version (and once you get the newest iteration of the computer browser extension you’re using), you will be able to reply to messages coming into WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, Telegram, and Line straight from your computer.
