Indian court allows Nokia to transfer its Chennai plant to Microsoft

Nokia’s plant in India that is located in the city of Chennai was under a dispute with tax authorities in the sub-continent. As a result, the asset, which was one of the biggest Nokia manufacturing plants was sized by the local government. The seizure could prove problematic as some speculated it might prevent the Microsoft acquisition of the Nokia mobile division.

The potential obstacle is now gone, however, as Nokia has won its appeal to lift the seizure of the plant, which allows the company to transfer the unit to Microsoft as a part of its deal. Read more »

Images of white LG V510 show up

LG’s upcoming slate, the V510 has been leaked on more than one occasion and we even saw the service manual of the tablet. Now, we have yet another internally leaked document, which shows the device in its white version.

Apart from showing the slate in white, the leaked document also confirms that V510 is a Wi-Fi slate just like the LG G Pad 8.3. So, the V510 is either a regional variant of the LG’s flagship tablet, which doesn’t make much sense (Wi-Fi only tablets works almost everywhere with no need for special versions), or it could be its Nexus sibling as earlier rumors suggests. Motorola Moto G costs $123 to build

Motorola’s newest offering, the Moto G has been the talk of the town for its impressive hardware specifications and very attractive price tag. Motorola is selling the 16GB version of the smartphone for $199 without a contract in the US, which made many suspect that it makes no profit of the actual hardware. According to an analyst though, it costs only $123 to build so there’s some profit to be extracted there.

Adding the other expenses to get the phone to the market and in turn in your pockets reduces the amount of course, but Mark Newman believes Motorola has an operating profit margin about 5% from the Moto G. Read more »

Samsung working on 8″ and 10″ tablets with AMOLED display

Samsung has done an Android tablet with AMOLED display in the past, but the recent slates from the global market leader have all been using LCD panels. However, we might soon be looking at a range of AMOLED tablets from Samsung, according to a report from the Korean Digital Daily publication.
