Asphalt 8: Airborne for Android goes free prior to its first big content update

Asphalt 8: Airborne is a great new addition to the popular Gameloft franchise of rubber-burning games and up until now has been $0.99 on the Google Play store. Now Gameloft has made the game free on Android just like it did for iOS not long ago.

Gameloft is also en route to deliver the first major update to the game, bringing along the new Renault Clio R.S. car, Limited Time Cups and more. The update is already live on the title for iOS so it’s expected to hit droids soon too. Read more »

While many were awaiting the iPad mini with Retina display, Apple was busy running the larger iPad through the treadmill so that when the unveiling came, it won’t fall into the shadow of its smaller sibling.

So much so, in fact, that once unveiled, it was revealed that the rudimentary upgrade was not to the big iPad but, in fact, the iPad mini. You have probably heard of this LeBron James fella. The professional basketball player adorned with four Most Valuable Player awards, two NBA Finals MVPs and today starts the new season as defending champion looking for a three-peat (three consecutive titles).

According to Samsung, a part of that success was down to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and a rainbow assembly of Galaxy Gear smartwatches the star uses. Samsung goes courtside after $100 million NBA deal

Samsung and the National Basketball Association have inked a deal which makes world’s number one smartphone manufacturer the official provider of televisions and tablets for the NBA.

Apple restocks first-gen iPad mini with Space Gray color option

Third Live Tile column on WP will depend on screen size, not resolution

Contrary to previous information coming from Joe Belfiore it turns out that the third live tile on Windows Phone 8.1 depends on the screen size only, and not the resolution.

The correction comes straight from Windows Phone guru himself over Twitter, saying that the third live tile column is set by the manufacturer depending on the screen size and not the resolution. Mr. Belfiore apologized for his mistweet and clarified the situation. Read more »

You can now use handwriting input in Gmail and Google Drive

Google already offers handwriting input in its Mobile Search, Google Translate (on web, Android and iOS) and in Chrome but it’s now adding it to its Gmail and Google Drive services.

Currently handwriting input supports over 20 languages in Google Drive and over 50 in Gmail. In order to get handwriting input you need to enable it in input tools in either service. Read more »

BlackBerry announces 5 million BBM activations in first 8 hours

BlackBerry has revealed on its BBM Twitter page that the BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android has received extremely warm reception. The company has seen some 5 million activations in just 8 hours after the app was launched.

The Lumia 2520 is Nokia’s first tablet

Over at its Abu Dhabi Keynote Nokia released its first slate dubbed Lumia 2520. The tablet runs on the Windows RT, has a 10.1″ FullHD display a Snapdragon 800 chipset and comes with a variety of color options – black, blue, white and red. The price before subsidies will be $499.

You can get the Lumia 2520 slate with an add-on keyboard, dubbed Power Keyboard, with additional USB ports, battery and integrated kick-stand. Read more »

Nexus 5 case hits eBay

Case-maker Ringke has released a case for the upcoming Nexus 5 and listed it for sale on eBay.
