Qualcomm has officially taken wraps of its Snapdragon 802 processor that is designed exclusively for streaming 4K content on your televisions. The semi-conductor giant also introduced its Snapdragon 602A chipset to improve the infotainment in cars.

The Snapdragon 802 is a SoC with quad-core CPU that shares a lot with the company’s Snapdragon 800 and 805 mobile processors. Read more »

LG has kicked things off at this year’s CES with its latest 4K OLED TVs. Part of the EC9800 series, the company has 55″, 65″ and a 77″ panels for visitors of the show to ogle.

As you’d imagine, the most interesting of the new family is the 77EC9800, which with its huge 77″ screen diagonal and 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution should be a welcome guest in any living room. Last year, after doing pretty much nothing with it, HP decided to sell the rights to WebOS to LG, who did something completely unexpected and decided to put it in its TVs instead.

After showcasing the massive 85-inch 4K or UHDTV earlier this year, Samsung is upping the ante with a positively gargantuan 110-inch version. Featuring the same framed floating panel design, the new 110-inch model goes on sale today in China, Middle East and a few European countries.

The 110-inch behemoth is the largest of its kind and at 2.6m width and 1.8m height, it’s bigger than a king-size bed. The 110-inch model will have all the features of the (comparatively) smaller 85-inch model. Read more »

Sony and Panasonic will be terminating their joint venture for developing OLED television screens. The farewell decision comes on the back of some poor financial quarters for both the firms in the recent times.

LG has announced that the popular music streaming service Spotify will soon be coming to its Smart TVs. The app will be compatible will all the 2013 models and the service is expected to go live in the next couple of days.

However, you would require a premium Spotify subscription to stream the music. The paid membership gives you access to use the service across smartphones, tablets and other platforms such as TV’s and connected devices. Read more »

Google in association with HBO has brought a couple of popular TV shows to the Play Store. The new deal has allowed the search engine giant to include Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Girls and Veep on the Google Play service for the first time.

Panasonic has officially announced that it will no longer produce plasma display panels. The decision has been expected and it was motivated with the desire to help the growth of company in other segments of the market.

Samsung and Sony have dominated this year’s prestigious European Imaging and Sound Association awards getting five winners each. It was HTC that won in the arguably most important category, though – Advanced smartphone. The EISA awards recognize the best equipment across a range of technology categories and the winners are picked based on the judgement from 50 specialized magazines, which are based across 20 countries in Europe.

Google unveiled a smart HDMI stick for TVs – unlike most sticks we’ve seen so far, Chromecast runs a simplified version of Chrome OS rather than Android. It integrates with Google services like YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Video and the Chrome app (on a phone, tablet or laptop). Long story short, it’s the Nexus Q done right.

How does Chromecast work? Say you’re viewing a YouTube video on your phone (Android or iOS) and hit the Chromecast button. The device will switch on your TV if it’s off, change the input so that the TV displays that feed and start playing. Read more »

Microsoft officially took the wraps off its latest gaming console dubbed Xbox One. The console will be available later this year for a yet to be revealed price tag.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has bagged the worldwide distribution rights of the much anticipated Angry Birds movie. The 3D animated film in the making is being developed, produced and financed by Rovio, the creators of the popular Angry Birds franchise.

Sony will be releasing the movie worldwide on July 1, 2016. The upcoming flick will be the first step into the feature films after the company marked its entry to the television industry with its weekly Angry Birds Toons animated series. Read more »

The third generation of Samsung Galaxy Tab lineup only has one official member so far (the Tab 3 7.0), but the rumor mill is adamant that there are 8″ and 10.1″ versions on the way. And the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 may have just shown up in GLBenchmark scores.
