Chrome for Android gets advanced autofill and printing for KitKat devices

Google has released updates to its stable and beta Chrome browsers for Android. To begin with the stable release of the app gets the functionality to print pages directly on KitKat devices.

Another feature which will slowly make its way to the browser is advanced autofill. It will, in essence, allow easier checkouts on sites that support autocomplete. The saved names, addresses, etc. from your desktop Chrome will sync with the mobile version of the app and, as websites begin to incorporate the feature you get auto form filling. Read more »

iBooks application gets iOS 7 update

In a spectacular show of laziness, Apple finally got around to updating their own application to match the look of their own operating system. iBooks for iOS 7 finally sports a new look that is more in line with the rest of the OS.

First thing you’ll notice is that the icon has changed. The wood textured icon of the past has now been replaced with an orange one with an open book in the center. Apple continues the tradition of creating utterly lackluster icons post iOS 7 and this new one is just one of the many that actually looks worse than its iOS 6 counterpart. Read more »

Gmail app for iOS brings new interface for the iPad

Google has updated the Gmail app for iOS that brings some new UI changes specifically for the iPad. One of the changes is a new sidebar in the landscape view that lets you quickly toggle between different inbox categories and even accounts. It also shows you the number of unread messages in each category.

The portrait view has been updated to fill the entire screen so you see your messages even better. There is also a fullscreen message editor that makes better use of the large tablet display. Other than that Google has also improved the scrolling on the iPad. Read more »

Google Search update for Android brings some KitKat goodness to older smartphones

Another thing that came along the Motorola Moto G announcement yesterday is the update to the Google Search app for Android. The latest version of Google Search is now available on the Google Play Store. The update brings to Android smartphones all the latest developments of Google Search, including prettier search results and a smarter Google Now. Of course, Google Now, as before, is only available to devices running Android 4.1 and above.

The new version of Google Search will allow you to have short dialogues with Google Now when you are conducting searches. In these dialogues, Google Now should be able to understand when you referring to your search term by an indirect pronoun instead of using the full name. Facebook Messenger app gets a complete overhaul

Facebook has released an update to the Facebook Messenger app for iOS and Android that brings with it a complete overhaul of the UI. The design clearly looks like it was made for the new iOS 7 but carries over to the Android version as well.

At launch you’ll notice that the older dull gray and Facebook blue colors have been replaced by bright white and a brilliant blue combination. There are no more gradients and drop shadows anymore and the UI has a clean, flat UI that is consistent with the rest of iOS 7. Read more »

Nokia Refocus comes to revolutionize mobile photography

Nokia has released its Refocus app in the Windows Phone app store. The app captures a series of images (2-8 to be precise) with different focus points and then allows you to create the coveted selective focus effect of large-sensor cameras.

In order to get the app you’ll need to own a PureView Lumia (920, 925, 928 or 1020 quality) with the Amber software update installed. The Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet will be joining the list, too, once it hits the shelves. Read more »

Sony releases PlayStation App for iOS and Android

Sony has released a new PlayStation App for iOS and Android devices, designed to help you connect with your PS4 console from anywhere. With this app you can see your PlayStation Network friends, see what they are playing, compare trophies and also chat with them.

You can also receive notifications, game alerts and invitations on the app and can use your phone as a mobile keyboard to enter text on your PS4, much better than doing it through the controller. Read more »
