Widely criticized for the use of less than premium materials unworthy of upmarket devices, Samsung has made the move recently to metal frames, and the upcoming Galaxy S6 will allegedly join the trend. Solving one problem typically creates others in the process, though, and antenna interference is one result of the metal used on the Galaxy S6′s body.

A report in Korean media states that Samsung is resorting to FPCB antenna technology for the future flagship, aiming to battle the negative effects of the metal frame on signal reception. Read more »

Sesame Enable has developed a smartphone that’s completely touch free, allowing users with disabilities to use and control the device simply by moving their head. Dubbed Sesame Phone, the Android handset is basically a modified Nexus 5 that features proprietary head-tracking technology.

The idea originated when Giora Livne, who himself is disabled, saw a computer game that could be controlled with head movement. He along with Oded Ben Dov, the game’s developer, then founded Sesame Enable to bring the idea to life. They had also started an Indiegogo campaign to help raise funds for the project, and they reached their goal last month. Read more »

Samsung has slipped to second place in the tablet segment of the Indian market and the local company – iBall rose to the top position. According to the research firm IDC, iBall climbed to the top with triple the market share in the Q4 2014 when compared to that in the previous year.

In the Q4 2013, iBall had only 4.5% tablet market share which rose to 15.6% in Q4 2014. On the other hand, Samsung’s market share dropped from 17.9% in Q4 2013 to 12.9% in Q 4 2014. Samsung lost the battle to iBall on the ground of variety and cost of the tablets. Read more »

Microsoft is working on a new friend tracking feature in an upcoming app – People Sense for the Windows Phone devices and is internally referred as Buddy Aware.

Just days after Lenovo admitted that the Superfish software, which comes pre-installed on some of its consumer laptops, could leave systems vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack, it has been slapped with a class-action lawsuit.

Filed by Jessica Bennett, whose laptop was damaged due to what she termed a “spyware”, the lawsuit charges both Lenovo and Superfish with fraudulent business practices, breaching users’ privacy, and tracking their Internet browsing habits. Read more »

Bang & Olufsen has announced a new portable Bluetooth speaker for use with smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The speaker has an interesting picnic basket-like design, with a handle to carry it around.

The Beolit 15 has an aluminum and plastic body, with a rubberized texture on top to keep your phone. The handle is made out of genuine full-grain leather and angled to avoid the speaker from wobbling while being carried around. Read more »

AG Drive is a racing game featuring anti-gravity space ships that you race around a futuristic race track set in the year 2260. The game is a combination of Wipeout and F-Zero, and pretty much what you’d expect that to be like if you’ve played those games.

AG Drive is now available on the App Store for the iPhone and iPad and has been given the Apple’s Editor’s Choice, which, to be honest, doesn’t really mean much if you see the history of some of the previous games that got this honor. Let’s see if this one’s any good. Read more »

The Oppo R5 shortly held the title of the world’s thinnest smartphone that it stole from the Gionee Elife S5.1 but later lost to the Vivo X5 Max. The R5 left the ambition of being the thinnest behind and came out with a limited edition gilded Oppo R5, which will only ever be produced in 10,000 units.

The Gilded R5 has a golden hue on its exposed metallic frame that runs around the sides of the handset. There are a few gold highlights, including the hardware keys below the display, the ring around the camera module and the Oppo logo on the back. Read more »

Acer is perhaps better-known for its tablets, but the Liquid series of phones offer quality specs on a budget. The Acer Liquid Jade S is a surprisingly light 5″ mid-ranger with dual-SIM connectivity. It was released a few months after its Liquid Jade sibling and brings a number of improvements.

Sometimes you have to start fresh to get it right, that’s what Samsung did with the Galaxy A series. They are all thin, with metal frames and go against Samsung’s very nature – they focus on looks and feel more than on features. Even so, the Samsung Galaxy A7 is pretty well loaded.
