The team behind the popular Android ROM has hinted that the release of their next build (based on Android 4.2.1) is imminent.
Steve Kondik, the man behind CyanogenMod, posted a screenshot showing the new version number running on a Galaxy S III.
A new method of circumventing the carrier SIM restriction on Samsung Galaxy S III’s and Galaxy Note II’s has been uncovered.
All you have to do is enter a code from your devices’ menu; there’s no need to send information to a website, pay anything or wait for an unlock code.
The Google employee Manu Cornet confirmed the name of the next Android (5.0) version – Key Lime Pie. He did this in a pretty funny way – drawing a comic showing the evolution of Android.
As you can see the last Android mascot in the picture holds Key Lime Pie.
Samsung has made a couple of attempts to integrate a pico projector into a phone, but if you those are not to your liking, the company has started making a separate projector accessory too. The Mobile Beam Projector is about the same size as a Galaxy S III and can be hooked up to a smartphone, laptop, media player – anything with MHL or HDMI out really.
The projector measures 116 x 60.4 x 12.2mm and weighs 108g, making it reasonably pocketable. It projects an image with nHD (640 x 360) resolution at up to 20 lumen brightness (15 lumen in normal operation). That’s comparable to what the Galaxy Beam has.
SMS messages turn 20 years old today and while the cell network technologies have changed, the usefulness of those 160 character texts hasn’t diminished. If anything it has increased – there are 8 trillion (yes, with a t) texts being sent each year.
Twenty years ago on this date, the first SMS message was sent – the message read ‘Merry Christmas’, typed on a computer by Neil Papworth and sent over the Vodafone network to one of its employees, Richard Jarvis, who received it on an Orbitel 901 phone.
Nokia made a pretty big deal of the stabilization feature of its Lumia 920 flagship smartphone. The handset comes with the Floating lens technology, which is real optical image stabilization, as opposed to the digital solution of its competitors.

ASUS has unveiled a new docking station for the Nexus 7 on their Japanese website and is expected to go on sale some time this month for 3,480 yen ($42).
The docking station uses the golden connectors on the side of the Nexus 7 to interface with it. It has a microUSB port on the back along with a 3.5mm audio jack, which lets you charge or connect the Nexus 7 to a computer as well as output audio from it.
The Kickstarter funded Android-based game console OUYA has gone from being just an idea to an actual product in the past few months. Now the creators of this console are ready to start shipping out the developer consoles to those who backed the Kickstarter project.
The first OUYA units will start shipping on December 28 and will reach in the next couple of days. These will be running an early version of the hardware and software and are meant for developers to create their games for OUYA.
It’s that great time of the year for the Angry Birds fans again. Rovio has just released the annual winter update to the Angry Birst Seasons game with 25 themed levels one for each day until Christmas.
The update also brings 3 secret and one bonus levels as usual.
Facebook Photo Sync feature is now available to the Android and iOS client apps. If you used them just recently you should have already got a notification about the new extra.
It does exactly what the name suggests – automatically uploads your captured photos to a private album on Facebook. You can share them with your friends later if you want.
The 3100mAh battery unit of the Samsung Galaxy Note II already propelled it to an impressive endurance rating in our battery test. I do however, reckon that there might be some users out there who would appreciate some extra juice at their disposal – just in case they need to jump start their car in a cold winter morning. Mugen Power’s humongous 6400mAh battery is aiming at those Galaxy Note II owners.
The laptop worthy battery unit is scheduled to ship on December 21, priced at a hair less than $100.
Nokia’s Scalado acquisition continues to pay off as the company just announced the PhotoBeamer app. The software is exclusive app to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 and allows you to stream photos quite easily.
You can stream your gallery to any device with a web browser and internet connection. What you need to do is open the PhotoBeamer website on the target device, scan a QR code with your phone’s PhotoBeamer app and your gallery will be shared immediately.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is coming on December 6 and to remind fellow gamers and fans of the series, Rockstar has released a new trailer for the title.
The trailer is full of nostalgic moments of the highly addictive PC game from 10 years ago and reminds us of the action packed missions that we are about to re-experience in a week.
