Microsoft Windows 10 to release on August 31

Two days ago, we reported that the Microsoft’s Windows 10 RTM build is set to arrive in July 2015. While many thought that was way too optimistic, Microsoft is hell bent to prove otherwise.

Microsoft is prepping to release the Windows 10 for public as well as for its partners on August 31 as per the listing spotted at NewEgg website. To be noted that the listing is for the OEM versions of the Windows 10 Home for $110 and Windows 10 Professional for $150. Read more »

Microsoft Lumia 435 and Lumia 532 are among the most affordable smartphones out there. Both devices are quite similar – they pack 4″ WVGA screens, run on Snapdragon 200 chips with 1GB RAM, offer 8 gigs of internal expandable storage and basic camera departments.

The LG G4 has grown a bit compared to the G3, but kept the battery capacity at 3,000mAh. Actually, that number hasn’t changed since the LG G2, but the company is promising that display and chipset advancements help expend battery life.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones Episode 4 ‘Sons of Winter’ is now available

Telltale Games has been working on the games based on the Game of Thrones series and has been releasing the same in instalments. The new Episode 4 ‘Sons of Winter’ is now available as an in-app purchase for $5 to play it on PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS and Android platforms.

The second half of the Telltale’s first Game of Thrones season starts with this new Episode 4 and soon the first season will be over in couple of months. When compared to the TV Show, new Episode 4 starts with the situation showing the third season. Read more »

Twitter updates Periscope for Android with fixes and improvements

Just days after Twitter’s live video streaming app Periscope arrived on Android, it has received an update, bringing along several bug fixes as well as video improvements.

The update fixes issues related to account creation and Twitter sharing. It also resolves a problem with Save to Gallery as well as an issue some users were having with deleting their broadcasts or replays. The change-log also says that the updated app “may also include traces of video improvements and stability.” Read more »

US reportedly launched a failed attempt to sabotage North Korea’s nuclear program with a Stuxnet variant

Five years ago, the United States National Security Agency (NSA) carried out an unsuccessful attempt to destroy North Korea’s nuclear program with a version of the Stuxnet virus, according to a report from Reuters.

As per the report, the operation took place around the same time as the well-known Stuxnet attack that crippled Iran’s nuclear program. However, the NSA couldn’t access core systems that ran North Korea’s nuclear weapons program due to the country’s secrecy as well as the extreme isolation of its communications network, the report notes. Google ATAP’s Project Jacquard to help produce interactive clothes

Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) team is working on a special weaving technology with textile makers to weave touch and gesture sensitive materials along with regular ones to make special yarns. These yarns are woven into fabrics that can be used for making products ranging from a shirt to a car’s upholstery. Furthermore, small circuits to work closely with that material are to be smartly crafted inside such final product. Connected fabrics is the objective of ATAP’s Project Jacquard.

The regular cotton, silk, polyester or any other material will get woven with equally thin conductive metallic alloys for making a strong yarn meant to be used in an industrial loom settings. But the cloth is only one part of the connected clothing. Read more »

Ross Ulbricht, founder of online drug marketplace Silk Road, sentenced to life in prison without parole

Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, who was convicted in February of creating and operating the online drug marketplace, has been sentenced by a US federal judge to life in prison without parole. He was facing a minimum prison sentence of 20 years.

“It was a carefully planned life’s work. It was your opus. You wanted it to be your legacy—and it is,” said Judge Katherine Forrest. “You are no better a person than any other drug dealer.” Read more »

Gmail API gets push notification support

Finally. After a long time, Google has finally added support for push notifications in the Gmail API.

Until now, if an application wanted to add support for Gmail, it would have to resort to polling the service after set intervals to see if there were any new changes. Polling is a bad idea on mobile, as it consumes a lot more power than push notifications, which are pushed directly to the device without it constantly having to check for changes. Read more »

SOMA is an upcoming survival horror game by Frictional Games, the people who made Amnesia and the Penumbra series of games. The game will be out on PC and PS4 on September 22.

SOMA takes place in a remote underwater research facility. The 12 minute long gameplay video features the main character in first person mode going around, trying to figure things out, which also hiding from… something (I’m not sure). Read more »

Popular 2D side scrolling game Leo’s Fortune is now available on both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1. The game is a universal app and you just have to purchase it once and it will work on either platforms.

Leo’s Fortune won many awards when it came out last year on iOS and Android. It is one of the better looking games on either platform and has good level design with some fun platforming puzzles. Leo, a tiny little furball, also brings a lot of character to the game. Read more »

Uber to begin tracking your location even when you’re not actively using its app

Uber has announced that an upcoming update to its privacy policies will allow the company to ask for access to a rider’s location when the app is running in the background, a move the ride-sharing startup claims will “get people on their way more quickly.”

In addition, the changes – which will come into effect starting July 15 – will also allow Uber to ask for access to your contacts data, something which the company says will enable it to “send special offers to riders’ friends or family.” Read more »
