Cyanogen is outing a new software update for the OnePlus One. The rollout of build 44S of CyanogenMod 11S for the phone is starting today. As usual in these cases, however, it might be a few days before it reaches all devices out there.

The new version is all about fixing bugs, big and small, some nasty and some less so. Unlike the previous over-the-air release, this one doesn’t come with any new features. Read more »

Apple’s apparently got a problem on its hands regarding its two latest smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. And no, it’s not #bendgate. According to rumors out of South Korea, a type of flash storage is causing the company some headaches in two models of the new iPhones.

Only the 64GB iPhone 6 and the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus seem to be affected. These iterations use a type of flash storage called TLC (triple-level cell) NAND. Read more »

Samsung is looking for applications for its bendy Super AMOLED screens and while it was mostly for show on the Galaxy Round, the Galaxy Note Edge challenges the rule of flat-screened UI of smartphones with its unique Edge screen.

The right side of the screen bends around to the side of the device and while it’s technically a part of the screen, it acts as a separate, utility screen. Read more »

We’ve seen bendable screens from both Samsung and LG but Japanese tech company Kyocera has been working on the problem since 2009. Kyocera’s concept is called the Proteus, which will be a smartphone that’s bendy enough to turn into a bracelet.

AMOLED seems to be the popular choice of display tech here, but Kyocera wants to take it further and create a bezel-less display with a physical keypad that appears and disappears on demand. Read more »

To better fit into the Android 5.0 Lollipop frame, Pushbullet has been updated to the Material Design UI standard. As part of the new look, Pushbullet is now easier to navigate and quicker to access channel and settings.

Samsung is continuing its promotional campaigns for the Galaxy Note 4, its latest flagship phablet. The company has released two new ads for the device, one focusing on its camera and the other on the S Pen stylus that comes bundled with the Note 4.

The S Pen is touted as nothing less than a “magic wand”, while the front facing camera is “so wide, you can selfie with, like, everyone“. Read more »

The Windows-powered HTC One (M8) features the same hardware and battery as its Android counterpart. The campaign kicks off with a 20 second “Your Style, Your Galaxy Alpha” video ad and some Doutzen branding on the Dutch Galaxy Alpha product page. Read more »

Samsung designers have opened up about the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge design for an inside look of how Samsung’s latest flagships came to be. The fourth generation, say the designers, is focused even more on the combination of digital (the flagship specs) and analog (the S Pen experience) and aims to deliver a “warm and emotional” design.

The addition of a metal frame was done at the request of users but the designers were against adding metal for metal’s sake. Read more »

Samsung has released two new promotional videos for the new Galaxy Note 4 on YouTube, that feature real artists. The first video shows British artist Jon Burgerman, known for his ‘doodle style’ of paintings, while the second video features Helsinki-based illustrator and graphic designer Janine Rewell.

Neither videos show the artists actually drawing on the phone itself but they are used to suggest that the phone can be used to quickly draw something whenever an idea or inspiration comes to you. Read more »
