Google has commenced pushing Android 5.0 Lollipop source code to the Android Open Source Project repository. In addition to the actual source code, the company has also updated the documentation behind it. It outlines all the changes that developers need to make in order to successfully build the latest version of Android for themselves.

Going under the title “lollipop-release”, the AOSP Lollipop version sports a build number LRX21M and a lot of hardware is covered in the device-specific repositories. We’re happy to see the first-generation Nexus 7 there. Read more »

The Google Calendar app for Android is the latest to get filled with Material Design. But its newest update is also packing a few new features, so it’s not all about the looks.

The new app is available today on Android 5.0 Lollipop – or, specifically, on the HTC Nexus 9 tablet, which so far is the only device to run the latest version of the OS. Today is the official launch day for the HTC-made Google Nexus 9 tablet. Of course you can go ahead and order one from the Play Store, in which case it will be delivered to you within two business days, but what if you don’t want to wait that long?

That’s where Best Buy comes in, as it turns out. The retailer is offering you the possibility to order a Nexus 9 from its website, and pick it up from one of its stores – today. AT&T has announced a bunch of phones today, but it apparently didn’t want to disappoint smartwatch fans either. So, the carrier has officially unveiled that it will sell both the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R.

These are currently the only round smartwatches running Android Wear, Google’s spinoff OS for wearables. While the Moto 360′s display isn’t perfectly round, the one in LG’s effort is slightly smaller. Read more »

We have seen the 5.0 version of Gmail app for Android a while back. The app has already been included in Android Lollipop update but those of us who are still on KitKat and older versions of Android can now get the 5.0 update, albeit through a leaked APK.

Google appears to have a cross-platform local file sharing service on the way. Dubbed Copresence, the upcoming offering will reportedly be a cross between Apple AirDrop and Android Beam.

Copresence will allow iOS and Android users to exchange a plethora of information that includes files, messages, photos, and directions among others. Read more »

BlackBerry’s Messenger app has received an update today, which brings with it two new features. Timed Messages allows you to set a timer when sending a message. When that expires, the message you sent will disappear from the BBM chat.

With Message Retraction, you can ‘take back’ something you sent – after the fact. The message disappears from the chat for the person you sent it to as soon as you retract it. Read more »

Now that all three major mobile platforms have their own personal assistants, we’re all wondering how well each of them performs at different tasks. The latest study doesn’t look good for Cortana, Microsoft’s attempt in this space.

Google Wallet has been updated with several nice features. One of them is the option to set up a recurring bank transfer to automatically add funds to your Wallet account.

You can set up the recurring bank transfer on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis and cancel it any time. Google says that there are no fees or minimum balance requirements for the automatic transfer. If your balance gets low, you can set an alert to remind you to add funds. Read more »

The freshly leaked Microsoft Band is now official and will work with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices. Redmond’s wearable device is made for the right hand, packs ten sensors, and will cost $199 when it hits the shelves on October 30 online and in Microsoft stores in the United States.

Complementing the two 5-inch tablets it announced back in June, Panasonic has today unveiled the Toughpad FZ-B2. This is a 7-inch extremely rugged tablet that is “designed for business”.

It will become available in Europe in December. In the UK, it will be priced at £591 + VAT, which means £709 inclusive of VAT. It should land in the US in February 2015 for $1,299. Read more »

Today Google has announced a new update for its Play Movies & TV app for Android. The new version of the app will roll out over the next week, and will bring with it a couple of important new features.

First off, like all of the recently updated apps made by Google, Play Movies & TV will get a do-over inspired by the company’s own Material Design guidelines. Read more »

Google released a Project Ara update video announcing the second developer conference for the platform will take place on January 14. There, registered developers will discus the Ara MDK 0.20 as well as have access to early modules and prototypes.
