Blackberry has announced that a new version of their popular messenger app is coming for both Android and iOS shortly. The new build will bring a lot of interesting features and make for an improved experience, tailored to use product-specific features, such as Apple’s Touch Id and the Android Wear platform.
Some of the more interesting additions to the app include a new Custom PIN feature. Users will be able to purchase a custom 6-8 character alpha-numeric pin form the BBM store for $1.99 a month. Another new opt-in payment option is the removal of advertisements from the messenger feed, which will set you back an additional $0.99 a month. This all sound way too price, but Blackberry does need all the income it can get right now.
Android Wear support will be brought to a whole new level. The messenger will now be able to push proper notifications to compatible wearables. These will be complete with message preview, quick actions and even voice replies with the help of Google Now. iOS users are also in for a treat. The new Touch Id system will be available as an alternative to the standard 4 digit privacy pas code within the app itself. Another long overdue feature on Apple devices is a dedicated landscape mode, which will finally be available.
Other nice little features in the upcoming BBM release include Sharing photos in group chats as well as multiple Channel contributors. These new additions will definitely help breathe a little life in Blackberry’s messenger. And after all, as they say, better late than never.
