HTC EVO 4G coming to Sprint on June 4th, to bring fast mobile Internet at a cost

We focus on GSM mobile phones mostly – but some CDMA offerings are just too mouth watering to ignore. The HTC EVO 4G is an Android phone with specs that trump even the HD2 and gobbles up Internet through its fast WiMAX connectivity. It’s on preorder already so if you are in the US you won’t have to wait longer – just under a month actually…

The HTC EVO 4G is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU running Android 2.1 Éclair on a 4.3” screen. Compared to the HTC HD2, the camera has been bumped up to 8 megapixels with 720p video capture capabilities (vs. 5MP, VGA@30fps for the HD2), plus it’s got an HDMI port.

The EVO 4G leverages on WiMAX, often labeled as 4G connectivity, to deliver fast browsing, high-quality YouTube videos and video chat through the Qik network. For some extra money a month, you can get an unlimited data plan (rather than an “unlimited” plan capped at 5GB) and for some more you can use the EVO 4G as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 8 devices.

The HTC EVO 4G for Sprint costs 199.99 US dollars on a 2 year contract after a $100 mail-in rebate. Data plans start at 69.99 dollars. An apparently mandatory fee of $10/mo removes the data cap and the Wi-Fi hotspot functionality comes in at an extra 29.99 dollars.

Sounds pricey to me, but if you’re already paying for a data plan on your smartphone and for mobile Internet for your laptop, this just might come out cheaper.

The HTC EVO 4G will be available on the 4th of June through RadioShack, Wal-Mart and Best Buy – and Best Buy already have it up on preorder.
