Motorola Atrix HD for AT&T brought some Kevlar wrapped Android goodness to our office, here’s the hands-on

Another top-shelf Android smartphone has joined AT&T’s LTE ranks, people. Beginning tomorrow, the Motorola Atrix HD will become the third Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 equipped powerhouse offered by the carrier, which means that it has never been a better time to be a prospective Android smartphone buyer.

The Motorola Atrix HD features two Krait CPU cores, clocked at 1.5GHz and Adreno 225 GPU. There’s a gig of RAM and 8GB of built-in memory, which can be further expanded via the microSD card slot. The screen is a 4.5″ LCD unit with HD resolution and ColorBoost technology and the sweet pixel density of 326ppi. An 8MP main camera with 1.3MP front-facing companion, full connectivity suite, including microHDMI port, and 1780mAh battery are also among the spec sheet’s highlights.

Visually, the Motorola Atrix HD looks like a Motorola RAZR, whose capacitive buttons under the screen have been removed. That’s not a bad thing as the RAZR is one of the best looking Android devices around.

With measures of 133.5 x 69.9 x 8.4 mm, and a weight of 140 grams, the smartphone can be considered quite elegant, given the processing power on tap. Build quality is flawless with Kevlar and Corning Gorilla Glass being the most heavily used materials.

Software-wise the Motorola Atrix HD will offer you Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Motorola have added quite a few clever customizations to the OS, but with the Android navigation buttons being software ones, we can’t help it but feel the company’s close relationship with Google when we use the device.
