Nokia Lumia 630 battery life

by 80 comments

Nokia Lumia 630 is the first smartphone to run Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box. It is also the first WP handset ever to offer dual-SIM support, but we had the single-SIM version at our disposal.

We weren’t particularly optimistic about the phone’s 1,830 mAh battery, but the quad-core Cortex-A7 processor should be quite energy-efficient. Anyway, Nokia promises 600 hours of stand-by or half a day on 3G talks in one charge. Let’s check if we can squeeze the same from our Lumia 630. Read more »

HTC Desire 816 battery test

by 97 comments

The HTC Desire 816 has one of the smaller batteries of all 5.5″ smartphones, 2,600mAh. There are a couple 2,500mAh but that’s hardly an excuse. Great battery life is one of the key selling points of phablets, second only to the large screen (actually those are the two selling points), so has this hurt HTC’s second phablet?

The answer is not so much, even without the use of HTC’s power saving modes. Read more »

Huawei Ascend P7 battery test

by 12 comments

After passing our review gauntlet it’s now time to shine a light on the Huawei Ascend P7 battery life.

The phone managed a decent endurance rating of 53 hours and we’re going to break down why. The Ascend P7 has to power a 5″ IPS LCD of 1080p resolution along with a quad-core 1.8 GHz processor with a 2,500 mAh battery – a slightly below average capacity compared to direct rivals of similar specs. Sony Xperia Z2 battery life test

by 264 comments

The Sony Xperia Z2 comes six months after the Xperia Z1 to displace it from the top of the Sony foodchain by means of a better chipset, bigger display and a bigger 3,200 mAh battery.

The increase of just 200 mAh doesn’t sound like much when factoring in the 0.2″ bigger display and faster hardware but may turn out important in the end. We’re going to look at the Sony Xperia Z2 numbers and compare them with those posted by the Xperia Z1 to see the difference. Read more »

Oppo Find 7a battery life

by 49 comments

We’ve just finished our Oppo Find 7a in-depth review, where we’ve summarized our battery life impressions. Naturally it’s time to give you the breakdown of the results and compare it to other devices.

The Oppo Find 7a has this rapid charging feature that allows you to charge 75% of the battery for just half an hour, while 5 minutes hooked up on the huge 4.5A charger will give you 2 hours of calls. That’s quite the promises and we’ve put those claims to testing first. Read more »

Alcatel Idol X+ battery test

by 41 comments

The Alcatel Idol X+ runs on a robust MT6592 octa-core processor, and is the first “true” octa-core smartphone we’ve reviewing toting a chip capable of throttling any number of the eight cores depending on how much power is required.

Alcatel has also thrown in a robust 2,500mAh battery into the mix, which leaves us curious to see how well the CPU is doing in terms of efficiency. Let’s dive in! Read more »

Nokia XL battery test

by 44 comments

The Nokia XL is a fairly large and heavy phone but it has a relatively small 2,000mAh battery. While its dual-core Cortex-A5 chipset and its WVGA screens are not the biggest battery hogs, we’re testing the dual-SIM version of the phone, which is bound to put extra strain on the battery.

The Nokia XL’s smaller siblings have 1,500mAh batteries so the extra 1″ screen size also comes with a 500mAh advantage. Read more »

LG G2 mini battery test

by 0 comments

The LG G2 mini has a lot to prove being the little heir to a very capable battery performer in the face of the LG G2. The G2 recently received Android KitKat and soared from a 62 hour endurance rating to an 82 hour one.

The G2 mini has the advantage of Android KitKat right from the get go so we’re hoping the stellar work by LG has been transferred here as well. To G2 mini has a much smaller 2,440 mAh battery (compared to the G2′s massive 3,000 mAh juice pack) but the mini also brings a smaller, lower-res display (4.7″ qHD), lower-grade Snapdragon 400 processor with battery-saving Cortex-A7s inside. So let’s look at the numbers. Read more »

LG G2 KitKat battery test

by 32 comments

After being conceived by LG last year, the G2 launched with Android Jelly Bean under its belt, which was the latest at the time.

Now that some time has passed and all the tests have been done the G2 has had the pleasure of receiving the latest Android on the block – KitKat – and among other optimizations we expected LG to have tweaked and improved the battery performance. Read more »

Nokia X dual-SIM battery life test

by 40 comments

You’ve probably noticed our in-depth review of the dual-SIM Nokia X is now live on our homepage. Now it is time to share with you the full battery benchmarks breakdown to see for yourself how the Nokia X stacks against the competition.

Nokia X is running on a very-low powered Snapdragon S4 Play chipset with a dual-core Cortex-A5 processor, but it comes with a rather modest by today’s standards 1,500 mAh battery. We didn’t expect some impressive battery performance not just because of the small battery, but also because the dual-SIM connectivity and the 4″ screen display that needs to be lit up. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy S5 battery life test

by 138 comments

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is bound to become one of the hottest selling handsets and so it must undergo heavy scrutiny. Battery life is an everyday worry, especially with bigger screens and faster chipsets.

The Galaxy S5 screen isn’t much bigger than that of its processor (5.1″ vs. 5″), but it is brighter. The Snapdragon 801 chipset should also offer a big performance boost over the Snapdragon 600 of last year. Read more »

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet battery life test

by 112 comments

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is one of the hottest new pieces of Android hardware – it’s hard to believe how thin and light it is until you hold it in your hand. At 6.4mm thick, there’s not much room so the tablet uses a 6,000mAh battery, the same capacity as the previous model.

Snapdragon 801 is a power-efficient chipset (it’s in phones with less than half the battery capacity), but there’s still a 10.1″ screen, which would probably be the main power drain. Read more »

HTC One (M8) battery life test

by 74 comments

The HTC One (M8) features a slightly bigger battery than its predecessor (2,600mAh vs. 2,300mAh) and an Extreme Power Saving Mode. That’s only for when you really need to stretch the last few percent though, otherwise it would be a shame to limit the speedy Snapdragon 801 chipset.

Note that for this test we didn’t use the power saving mode – we’re aiming to replicate regular daily usage and these modes limit the phone’s features and performance. Read more »

Nokia Lumia Icon battery life test

by 72 comments

Our review of Nokia Lumia Icon is completed and live on our homepage. Naturally, it is now time we share the complete breakdown of our standardized battery test.

Nokia Lumia Icon runs on the Snapdragon 800 chipset and features a 5″ 1080p AMOLED display. We’ve already met with the Lumia 1520, which shares most of its internal and that one did amazing on our test – so we’ve kind of expected some great numbers from Icon too. Read more »

LG G Pro 2 battery life test

by 74 comments

With the full review of the LG G Pro 2 now complete, it’s time to turn your attention to our battery test and see how LG’s latest phablet fares. One of its main competitors is going to be none other than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, so it’s going to have to do well to stand a chance.

And chances are it will, when you consider that both phones pack equally large 3,200mAh batteries, have the same chipset and have 1080p displays close in size Read more »
