Alcatel OneTouch Flash pre-orders begin in India

The Alcatel OneTouch Flash smartphone was officially announced in Thailand back in September, and now it’s made its way to India as well. In fact, the handset is already up for pre-order at Flipkart, the subcontinent’s biggest online retailer.

The OneTouch Flash is being offered in both grey and white, the pricing being the same in both cases – INR 9,999 (that means approximately $161 or €130 at the current exchange rates). Read more »

The Adidas MiZX FLUX service allows you to create custom sneaker design and having it shipped to you. Now, the company has made it even easier to do so with its dedicated MiZX FLUX app for Android and iOS.

You just snap a photo of whatever you like to get printed, after selecting your gender, country and shoe size and then scale and adjust the photo to the shoe template. Then, you place an order, but it doesn’t come cheap. Read more »

Pebble gets an update and now supports notifications in 80 languages

The Pebble smartwatch has been treated with a firmware update, which allows its e-paper display to show notifications in many more languages as now there’s full character support. The Android app also got a new version which allows any app to beam notifications to the Pebble.

Apart from the support for showing notifications in 80 languages, the Pebble can now end ongoing calls, which is definitely useful. General performance and reliability should also be enhanced. Read more »

Telltale releases trailer for upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ game

Telltale, makers of the popular Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us series of games, have been working on a new game. Based on the series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by George R. R. Martin, otherwise known as just ‘Game of Thrones’ due to the popularity of the TV show by HBO. The game itself is also called just ‘Game of Thrones’ and features many of the actors from the TV show providing their voice and likeness to the characters in the game.

As with the previous games they made, Game of Thrones will be a point and click adventure and in an episodic format, six, to be precise, and the first one is called ‘Iron from Ice’. The game is largely based on the fourth season of the TV show but features the House Forrestor, which is present in the later books but hasn’t yet been introduced in the TV show. You play as five of the characters in House Forrestor. Martin’s personal assistant Ty Corey Franck has partnered with the game developers for this game. Read more »

Jolla Tablet campaign crosses $1 million mark in its second day

The Jolla Tablet campaign reached its (rather low) funding goal of $380,000 in a couple of hours and now in its second day it has already passed the $1 million mark. The campaign is going so well that the price keeps rising – the first 1,000 tablets went at $190, the current batch of 1,000 tablets is priced at $209.

And the price will keep rising, eventually reaching its estimated retail price of $250 – matching the metal-clad Nokia N1. Read more »

Android Lollipop’s encryption feature brings significant performance penalty

One of the features in Android 5.0 Lollipop is encryption, which encrypts all your data and can only be decrypted when you unlock the phone using the passcode, making it unusable to someone without the passcode even if they can access the memory.

This feature is disabled by default on devices that got updated to Lollipop (such as the Nexus 5) and has to be enabled separately but the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 come with it enabled by default (which cannot be disabled). Unfortunately, that may not be the best idea, as AnandTech’s tests have shown, the encryption feature has a severe performance penalty. Read more »

SwiftKey for Android update brings much improved performance, 12 new languages

The SwiftKey third-party keyboard for Android has received a pretty hefty update today. The new version should already be available in the Google Play Store.

Its main claim to fame is the all-round improved performance. The time it takes for the keyboard to appear has been reduced, and the same can be said for the keyboard quit time too. Switching between fields is faster, and typing is said to be more responsive now as well. Read more »

LG G Pad 7.0 and 10.1 now available at Verizon

The carrier nicknamed Big Red has added two LG tablets to its roster today. They are the G Pad 7.0 and G Pad 10.1, both LTE-enabled as you’d expect. And they’re both already available to purchase from Verizon.

Here Maps will predict tomorrow’s traffic so you can avoid it

Fleksy keyboard breaks its own world record for the fast texting, price drop ensues

A Fleksy keyboard user has broken his own Guinness World Record for the fastest typing on a mobile device. Marcel Fernandes Filho, who had a previous record of speed-texting at 18.19 seconds, has set a new record of 17.00 seconds.

The Brazilian teenager used an iPhone 6 Plus with a Fleksy touchscreen keyboard to type the phrase “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.” Read more »

Sony unveils A7 II full-frame mirrorless camera with in-body IS

Sony has unleashed its latest mirrorless full-frame camera dubbed A7 II. It brings an improved body, speedier focusing, new video capture abilities and is the first full-frame mirrorless camera to have in-body stabilization.

The A7 II relies on a 5-axis IS that will move the sensor (sensor shift technology) to avoid blurring. Sony claims the new IS could compensate up to 4.5 stops (CIPA standard). Read more »
