Samsung is all set to buy 3% stake of the Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp, who is currently struggling and trying to re-build its operations. Sharp has been mounting up with losses and has had a hard time raising funds after its credit rating status was changed last year.

The partnership with the South Korean firm might just be the breakthrough the company is looking for, to get back to the winning ways. Samsung can also be one of the key consumers of Sharp’s products and can surely help the struggling company to improve its production and operations. Read more »

LG showcases its innovative Wireless Ultra High-definition transmission technology for the first time at the on-going Mobile World Congress. The latest feature for the next generation smartphones allows you to view games, movies and other smartphone essence on Ultra HD TV’s in real time, through wireless data transfer.

The transmission technology is said to deliver the multimedia contents to your televisions in a much quicker and smoother manner than any other previous content streaming system. Looks like webOS has a new owner now. After being acquired by HP back in 2010 and then being made open source a year later, the mobile operating system has now been acquired by LG.

If you’re hoping to see some new smartphones and tablets from LG running webOS, however, you are in for a disappointment. LG has no such plans for webOS as of now and will only be using the OS to power its range of smart TVs. Read more »

According to the sources at 9to5Google, Google will be opening its own chain of retail stores in the US by the end of the year around holiday shopping season.

This move may have come across as a surprise a couple of years ago, but with the advent of the Nexus devices and the Chromebook, along with upcoming devices such as Project Glass, a retail chain of stores is just the thing that the company needs. Read more »

H.265, the successor to the highly popular H.264 video codec, used for over 80 percent of all the online video, has been approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), allowing it to be used for the creation of video content that is significantly smaller in size than what we have today.

Known also as High Efficiency Video Coded, H.265 allows file sizes that can be around half as much as the current H.264 encoded videos while maintaining the video quality. This allows content providers to supply much smaller files with the same quality, thus reducing the time required to download or stream the video. Read more »

Sony took to the CES floor today to showcase their new 56-inch, 4K OLED TV prototype. You can probably tell from these limited specs (frankly the only ones you need to know) that it is going to look stunning and showgoers have reported that it does indeed.

As promised back in November, Samsung showcased their first 4K television to the world. As it happens, at a monstrous 85-inches, it is also the world’s largest 4K television in the world.

The Samsung UN85S9, as it is called, features a unique floating design. The panel is held up by the sides within a metal frame, which gives the impression of it floating in the center. As you can see, the designers haven’t really been successful in simulating that effect but nonetheless the design is striking. Read more »

It’s been a year since we first saw LG’s massive 55-inch OLED TV. The television was then showcased to a wider audience at CES, where it dazzled onlookers with its picture quality and amazingly thin design and even managed to nab the Best of Show at CES 2012 award.

Now, a year later, the design has gone through a bit of a change and more importantly LG is finally ready to start shipping out this TV to eager customers, starting with its home country – South Korea. Read more »
