The budget nature of the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue calls for much corner cutting but when it comes to the battery backup, the Chinese have done pretty well. The 7 incher is packing a potent 4100mAh Li-Po battery that promises to go great distances.
However, the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue packs a rather outdated quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU, which isn’t exactly known for its power-efficiency. We were quite interested to find out how those two balance out. Read more »
We’ve had the Samsung Galaxy Core for enough time now that we got see how good the battery of the affordable smartphone is.
The Samsung Galaxy Core we have here on campus is of the dual-SIM variety which, in theory, should do worse than the single-SIM edition, having to power a second radio all the time. But is it really that bad? Find out after the break. Read more »
The 2,200mAh battery of the Moto X has to power a relatively modest by today’s top-end Android smartphone standards’ hardware setup. We were however, curious to measure the impact of Motorola’s Touchless Control and Active Notifications additions on the Moto X’s battery performance.
When we were first introduced to the Moto X, the device’s product management team told us that the goal was for the smartphone to make it through 24 hours of regular use. Read more »
The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini comes in a dual-SIM version, just like its big sibling. But with the same chipset and same battery, we can expect lower talk time and standby, with the same web browsing and video playback times, right?
As it turns out, no. Looking at the specs sheet reveals no changes between the single and dual-SIM versions, but there’s potentially a new modem as the talk time went up. Read more »
The newest high-end smartphone from HTC, the Butterfly S, shares many of its features with the HTC One, but one area where it has the aluminum flagship beat flat is battery capacity.
The huge 3200 mAh battery of the Butterfly S rivals the capacity of our current champion, the Motorola RAZR MAXX, but is its software optimized well enough to challenge the Motorola offering? Find out inside. Read more »
The Oppo R819 is impressively thin at 7.3mm, but that didn’t come at the cost of the battery – 2,000mAh sounds good, when you consider other minis like the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini duos and the HTC Desire 600 dual sim both have about 1,900mAh batteries.
The chipset with a quad-core Cortex-A7 and PowerVR SGX544 should be very power efficient too, but it’s driving a 720p screen rather than qHD like on some other minis, that’s about 78% more pixels to draw. Read more »
Our review of the Huawei Ascend P6 is almost done, but until it pops on our homepage why don’t you check out the smartphone’s battery test. Huawei did manage to make this the world’s slimmest smartphone, but did it come at the expense of battery life?
The Huawei Ascend P6 runs on a somewhat dated quad-core Cortex-A9 processor though Huawei says it did a lot to optimize its consumption. The low-power IPS display should be gentle on the 2000mAh battery as well, but we’ll have to see it to believe it. Read more »
The LG Optimus GJ is a rare midrange smartphone offering that also features IP-certified water resistance. It’s based on LG’s famous Optimus G flagship with a new watertight chassis and a beefier battery.
The Optimus GJ lacks some of the connectivity antennas found on the G, like NFC and LTE, and with the larger battery should have the edge over its flagship predecessor. Read more »
Carrying premium design features is always welcome for any dual-SIM smartphone out there, but the HTC Desire 600 dual sim isn’t just for show. Its main purpose is to be available when needed especially considering its call for double duty.
At first glance the dual-SIM droid from HTC doesn’t seem likely to impress here, as it packs a relatively modest 1860mAh battery. Hopefully, HTC has done the necessary Android and Sense 5 UI optimizations to make the most out of the available juice. Read more »
The HTC One mini inherits one of the best designs of a smartphone ever, but it will be just a pretty paperweight if its battery runs out too quickly. It has a 1,800mAh Li-Po battery, compared to the 2,300mAh battery of the HTC One, but how that affects real-life performance.
The tinnier battery has to feed a smaller, lower res screen (4.3″ 720p vs. 4.7″ 1080p) and a smaller CPU and GPU, so we are not really sure what to expect here. Read more »
The Sony Xperia ZR is the little brother of the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, and boasts pretty much every key specification they have. The major is the 4.55″ 720p display, which should be kinder to the equally large 2300 mAh battery inside the phone.
Identical chipsets and batteries plus a smaller screen of lower resolution give the Xperia ZR every chance of beating its premium rivals. Read more »
The BlackBerry Q5 is a business phone, meaning no matter what it has to have charge left over or you could miss all sorts of important calls and messages. The BlackBerry Z10 wasn’t bad with a 46 hours endurance score (but then it only has a 1,800mAh battery), then the Q10 beat it with a 56 hours score (but it does have a bigger 2,100mAh battery and smaller screen).
The Q5 has a 2,180mAh battery, same size screen as the Q10 (but LCD instead of AMOLED) and a lower clocked chipset. How did it do? Read more »
The Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom is a rework of the Galaxy Camera from last year, and it’s based on the Galaxy S4 mini, rather than the Galaxy S III. While shooting photos may be one of the primary goals of the S4 zoom, the device is a proper smartphone.
It’s got a slightly bigger battery than the S4 mini – 2,330mAh vs. 1,900mAh – but the chipset is older, let’s see how that balances out. Read more »
