Samsung Galaxy S4 cases by Spigen hands-on

The Korean mobile accessories powerhouse Spigen SGP offers a range of protective cases for the Samsung Galaxy S4, rivaled only by their Apple iPhone 5 range. From tempered glass screen protectors, all the way to magnetic flip cases, there’s a model to cater to everyone’s taste.

Over the years, Spigen SGP has established a reputation for offering products with premium design and quality. Therefore, when I got to the chance to spend time with some cases from the Samsung Galaxy S4 range, I had nothing but high expectations.

Spigen Neo Hybrid

The Spigen Neo Hybrid case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is arguably the most popular offering in the range. The smartphone cover consists of two parts – an outer shell for shock absorption and grip, and form-fitted cover made of hybrid TPU material.

Despite its ultra-slim nature, the Neo Hybrid case delivers superb protection for the Galaxy S4. All edges of the smartphone are covered. The display is also shielded, as the case protrudes 0.8mm above it to protect it in case the device hits the ground face first.

Ergonomics are well covered as well. The Galaxy S4’s buttons have retained their sensibility despite being fully covered. The smartphone’s ports are all easily accessible – just be aware that due to the precise cutouts in the case, you might have a harder than usual time fitting in some aftermarket USB cables.

Overall quality is superb. The materials used for the making of the Neo Hybrid case look and feel great.

The Spigen Neo Hybrid case is priced at $29.99. The phone’s cover is available only in black, while the outer shells are offered in five different colors. You can buy the latter separately for $9.99.

Spigen Slim Armor View

The Spigen Slim Armor View case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is a rugged take on a flip case for the Korean smartphone. The cover is a hybrid between a Spigen Slim Armor case and an S-View cover.

The Slim Armor View case offers excellent protection for the Galaxy S4. All edges and buttons of the smartphone are covered in TPU, while an outer polycarbonate enclosure prevents damage from accidental drops. The display window itself is scratch resistant too. To cap things up, the case snaps closed quite firmly, so it doesn’t open accidentally like most flip cases.

The Slim Armor View case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 looks great in the flesh. Build quality is also impressive – even an overly picky user will not have anything to frown at.

Ergonomics are up to snuff. The Slim Armor View cover, like its S-View counterpart, is magnetic and has a small display for phone call and music player duty. Spigen have also added the option to access the home button when the case is closed, should you decide to answer calls or check notifications in this fashion.

You can also take a break from the flip cover by easily removing it from its hinge. This essentially transforms the case into a regular Spigen Slim Armor one.

The Spigen Slim Armor View for the Samsung Galaxy S4 can be ordered in black or white for $49.99. Considering the dual functionality and top notch build quality and ergonomics, the cover should be on the shopping list of everyone looking for a flip case, as long as budget allows.

Spigen Ultra Flip View

The Spigen Ultra Flip View case for the Galaxy S4 is an obvious alternative to Samsung’s own S-View Cover. Unlike the Samsung-made version however, Spigen’s creation does not require removal of the battery cover so it essentially adds a bit of bulk to the S4 waistline.

The Ultra Flip View case offers the same functionality as the S-View cover. It is magnetic, so the Galaxy S4’s display goes live the moment you flip the case open. The small window allows you to manage your calls and the Samsung Music Player.

Ergonomics are hassle-free. The volume rocker and power/lock key button are left exposed, so pressing them is easy. The Galaxy S4’s ports are also easily accessible.

The Spigen Ultra Flip View case for the Galaxy S4 is available in four different colors for $39.99. It undercuts the S-View cover’s price significantly, so it is worth a look if this is the type of case you are after.

GLAS.t screen protectors

Users who don’t like to put a cover on their Samsung Galaxy S4 are covered by Spigen too. The manufacturer offers the GLAS.t series of screen protectors.

The thinnest of the above is only 0.15mm thick. The GLAS.t NANO SLIM screen protector consists of anti-shatter film covered glass with oleophobic coating which makes it feel like an integral part of the smartphone.

The GLAS.t NANO SLIM cover comes bundled with back cover protector, installation kit, and a set of colored home button stickers. At $34.99 it is hardly cheap, but considering the seamless protection its offers for the Samsung Galaxy S4, it is worth a look if you’re not into full blown cases.

You can check out (and order) the entire range of Spigen accessories for the Samsung Galaxy S4 over here. The company’s dedicated Amazon store offers the products as well, often at a significant discount.
