Pinch-to-zoom functionality comes to Chrome OS

It looks like Chrome OS is taking a few functionality cues from Android.

Google has just added pinch-to-zoom functionality to its Chrome OS, which makes browsing the web on a touchscreen Chromebook a bit cooler now.

When the super-premium Chromebook Pixel hit the market, the laptop’s touchscreen seemed to be a bit superfluous: sure you could use it scroll through web pages and it worked well, but it didn’t really seem like a full-fledged feature.

The latest update to Chrome OS, however, has added a touch-enabled window manager, and allows you to pinch-to-zoom into web pages with automatic text scaling.

Some hardcore Chrome OS users will bring up the fact that this feature has been available for a while and they’re half-right: it was only available to users who were checking out the “Canary” release channel; it’s only just become officially released.

In addition to pinch-to-zoom, Google has also toyed with the idea of adding an on-screen keyboard to the Chrome OS, meaning that you could find the OS on tablets and other touch-enabled devices too. Google hasn’t hinted at this possibility, but it isn’t difficult to see Chrome on a slate, is it?
