Microsoft Office for iOS and Android arriving early next year

Back in May we reported the sighting of what looked like Microsoft Office running on an iPad. Back then Microsoft denied working on such an application but turns out that wasn’t true at all.

According to The Verge, Microsoft has been working on a version of Office for iOS as well as Android and plans to release early next year. The iOS version will be released around late February or early March and the Android version will arrive in May.

The version of Office for iOS and Android will be a read-only free app that will allow users to view Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on their mobile devices. Should they wish to edit them, they will need to purchase an Office 365 subscription. Organizations could also distribute codes for Office 365 for their employees. Unlike the full version of Office found on Windows and Windows RT devices, the iOS and Android version would only allow basic editing, for obvious reasons.
