An upcoming mysterious Facebook event has several sources speculating that the social network might be adding video support to its Instagram platform.

Twitter wars are picking up pace recently. First it was HTC, Samsung and LG that exchanged pleasantries on the 140-character network and now it’s Nokia, who used a fan-made Condescending Wonka meme, originally posted on Nokia’s Conversations Blog to attack Samsung.

Twitter has updated its mobile applications on iOS and Android with some new UI changes. First of all, you will notice a new tweet compose window, which instead of a popup now appears as a new screen over the current one. You will also see larger fonts while typing but more importantly they have completely changed the way you add images and preview them.

Now, when you try to add an image to your tweet, it will pop a drawer below that shows all your images from your device in a grid. This view includes images from all your folders so if you want to go to a specific folder without having to sift through all the photos then you can still do that by launching your image gallery from within the app and selecting the folder and the file. Back in October 2011, Google announced that they will be shutting down the ill-fated Google Buzz social network. Now, the company is taking the final steps towards this goal but before they delete all your Buzz related data, they will be backing it up on Google Drive on or after July 17, 2013.

Buzz users will find a copy of all their Buzz posts in a new private folder in their Google Drive account. A second, publicly accessible folder will be made for all your public posts on Drive. As with other files on Drive, you can choose to download, share or delete these files. These newly-created files will not count against your storage limits. Read more »

Google recently updated the desktop version of its Google+ social network and the accompanying Android app. Those who check Google+ through the browser on their smartphone can now enjoy the new design too.

The new Google+ mobile page uses the search giant’s new favorite UI element – the card. Now all posts in your stream are displayed as cards and they feature easy to use +1 and Share buttons. Read more »

Flickr has gone through a major redesign that completely changes the look of the homepage and your photostream. Your homepage now has large photos from your friends as well as from other Flickr users that you can like and share without even having to open the image.

Your photostream also has received a major upgrade. You now have a large cover image up top and your photos span the entire width of the screen in a tiled pattern. Open an image and it takes up a major portion of the screen and the image information is placed below while giving more prominence to the image, the way it should be. Yahoo is the second most popular search engine on the web (according to Alexa.com) but has had issues in the last couple of years to stay relevant. Among its top problems is its aging demographic, which contributes to the company’s lack of coolness. Yahoo’s Chief Financial Officer Ken Goldman even admitted this, saying the company has to make itself cool again, something it “got away from for a couple of years”.

Sources, allegedly close to both sides claim that Yahoo has been in “serious” talks with popular blogging service Tumblr on some kind of a collaboration deal or even a complete acquisition. Tumblr has what Yahoo wants – the large user base in the 18-to-24 age group. Read more »

Google+ has been one of the services that got a major update following the Google I/O keynote speech today. The social network now has a redesigned UI with a new stream, which is all about design and depth. Google has taken the multi-column design from the mobile devices and has brought it to the desktop, making the interface beautiful and dynamic.

The photos and videos in the design span multiple columns that are fast, fluid and fun. Google has also introduced delightful animations throughout its new design. Read more »

Facebook has a launched a new password security option called Trusted Contacts. The latest security option allows you to select few of your trusted friends, who will help you retrieve the password if you are unable to access your Facebook account.

If you set up the Trusted Contacts option in your account, the selected friends will be provided with security codes, which will allow you to access your profile in case you are locked out of your account. Read more »

Instagram has released v3.5 of their mobile app for iOS and Android and along with that introduced a new feature to the service. Now, you will be able to tag your friends in your photos and see all the pictures you have been tagged in in your profile.

To tag someone in a photo, click on the ‘Add People’ option after you take a photo. You will them be asked to tap anywhere on the photo you want to tag someone and then type their profile name. You then select the ID and the photo gets tagged. You can not just tag new photos but also existing ones by clicking on the options key in the bottom right of each photo. Read more »

It looks like Facebook for Windows Phone 8 is on its way to catching up with its iOS and Android counterparts. A new beta of the official app for Microsoft’s smartphone OS improves the social networking experience, while allowing users to submit their feedback.

The app’s beta redesign includes support for high-resolution photos, improved sharing of posts, and Facebook Timeline. Read more »

We’ve heard about this before but it doesn’t hurt to mention it yet again – Instagram is coming to Windows Phone. So says the official Nokia Sweden account on Facebook in response to one user. The response reads roughly like this – “Instagram is on the way but can’t give an exact date right now”. The comment has been taken down, which does add an air of legitimacy to the information (or just the opposite, depending how you look at it).

Last month, a Nokia Sweden account tweeted that an app for WP is under development, which fueled the users expectations. The question is – do Windows Phone users really care if Instagram is coming? Read more »

Last week we reported on the rumors of Twitter releasing its own music streaming service, which were backed by the music.twitter.com website which went live around that time but wasn’t quite functional back then. Now the service has been announced officially and is called Twitter #music.

At the heart of this service is the brand new app, which is currently only available on iOS, that too just on the iPhone. This app pulls all the tracks that are being listened by the people you follow by going through their tweets and also shows what other people are listening. Read more »

LinkedIn, the social network for suits, has updated its mobile apps on iOS and Android. Both apps now feature a brand new UI with a simpler and more attractive layout.

The new app features cards for individual posts, similar to the Facebook and Google+ apps. Clicking on the button on the top left opens a drawer on the left with your messages and notifications. There is a permanent search bar at the top and a button to leave a new post. Read more »
