Apple outs OS X Mavericks Golden Master for developers, will be available to users later in October

OS X Mavericks, the latest edition of Apple’s desktop operating system, is now available to registered developers as a Golden Mater pre-release version.

The Golden Master release for OS X Mavericks is the one where Apple has finished working on this version and distributes it to developers in order for them to optimize their software. Users will be able to download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store by the end of October.

Apple announced OS X Mavericks in June and has focused on making it more power efficient as well as quicker and more responsive. Part of that is moving to OpenGL 4 to optimize graphic drawing, but also other tricks like compressed memory and more. With optimizations Apple promises up to 72% lower CPU usage.

Since the company has run out of feline names, the upcoming versions of OS X will be named after places in California.
