The dual-screened YotaPhone 2 will be launching in the US early this year and it has already taken the first step – a trip to the FCC. Unlike FCC’s usual cryptic documents, this time we get photos – both external and internal – and even the complete manual.
Not that the phone is a mystery, it’s already available in the UK and in Russia, but wouldn’t it be great if all FCC leaks were like this?
Anyway, the YotaPhone 2 comes with 2014 specs and one unique feature – a secondary electronic paper display. This one is touch-enabled (unlike the one on the original YotaPhone) and can be used to control apps – the YotaMirror feature will transfer them from the 5″ 1080p AMOLED display to the 4.7″ 540 x 960px electronic paper display.
That’s great for when you need the screen to be constantly on, but there’s not much battery charge left. The second screen is monochromatic but uses a lot less energy. It can also display notifications, messages, tweets, your RSS feed and more. Using the so-called YotaPanels you can place dedicated widgets to the secondary display. The YotaCover replaces them with an image, hiding your messages from the always-on display.
One thing that’s not entirely clear is the pricing of the YotaPhone 2. It should be headed to stores soon though, bow that it has the go-ahead from the FCC.
