With the weekend now in full swing, we’re reaching out for your opinion in our traditional poll format. We’re pitting another pair of 2014 Android flagships against one another – the Sony Xperia Z2 and the HTC One (M8).
We’ve already compared the two at length in our in-depth shootout, and now it’s time to cast your vote in which one of these is the better one in five distinct categories: design, screen, user interface, still photo and video image quality.
Let’s kick things off with the design of the two flagships. Both Sony and HTC have ditched plastic in favor of aluminum, and in the case of the Xperia Z2 it is complemented with durable glass back panel. Both have their quirks here and there, but nothing to really change our minds on how drop-dead gorgeous they look.
As we’ve stated numerous times, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there’s no denying that the One (M8) and Xperia Z2 are the top fashion models in the smartphone industry right now. So, what’s your take on this?
Now let’s check out the screens of the two phones. Both phones rock 1080p resolution displays, but the One (M8)’s 5.0″ screen gives it an edge in pixel density over the Xperia Z2′s 5.2″ one. In terms of quality, both are good even if the One (M8) has a slighter edge when it comes to contrast and sunlight legibility.
Sony’s Xperia UI and HTC’s Sense UI have evolved a lot and are now at a stage where both are very polished and offer fantastic experiences to users. Just like for the phone’s design, deciding which UI is better is strictly a matter of personal taste. What we can say is that they’re both clean, packed with features and build on top of Android is a very cool manner.
The Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One (M8) can’t be further apart one another when it comes to the camera department. Both cameras do offer a ton of options, modes and tricks in their bag, but HTC insists on its 4MP UltraPixel camera, which this time around is accompanied by a second camera used for some pretty cool effects. However, Sony’s 20MP camera offers a more potent hardware behind it and in our shootout showed its superiority.
Nevertheless, feel free to choose which of the samples below looks best to you.
As for video image quality, the samples below are from a 1080p @ 60fps video, which we borrowed from our shoot-out. However, the Xperia Z2 also offers 4K video recording, whereas the One (M8) is limited to 1080p.
Check back in a week’s time for the results. Don’t forget to share your choice in the comments section. Happy voting!
