The Sony Xperia ZR has rushed into our office in dire need of review treatment. Before that though, we are giving it a quick test drive in front of our camera to show you some of its awesome features.
You can’t really mistake the Xperia ZR, can you? Especially with this cool pink paint job, which should really become a favorite of the ladies. It looks the part thanks to the high quality plastic used, which feels very sturdy and premium. The back cover is made of a matte plastic, while on the sides, there are glossy strips that accent the body color even more.
Powering the Xperia ZR is the same chipset we saw under the hoods of the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. The Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset may not be the latest offering from Qualcomm, but its quad-core 1.5GHz Krait processor, Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM means its not a slouch by any means.
At the back, there’s the familiar 13MP Sony camera with HDR video recording capabilities. Sony has provided it with the Superior photo shooting mode as well, which we’ll test out in our review.
The Sony Xperia ZR is built around a 4.55″ TFT display with Sony’s Mobile Bravia 2 engine for sharper images and punchier colors. It features a layer that makes it shatter and scratch proof, too. Below the display, Sony has fitted the ZR with the cool notification LED strip, called Ambience light.
Recent Sony Xperia family members are dust- and water-proof with an IP57 certificate in their pocket, but the Xperia ZR takes it up a notch and features an IP58 certification. This allows it to dive deeper than 1 meter of water, which the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL aren’t advised to do.
The special construction of the Sony Xperia ZR has earned it an IP58 certification
Here’s our Sony Xperia ZR hands-on video. We also did a quick unboxing of the smartphone, as well.
We’re hard at work on the full Sony Xperia ZR review, and it should hit our homepage some time next week.
