Sony rumored to work on the Xperia Tablet Z, purported specs leak UPDATED

Rumors are suggesting that Sony is working on a replacement for the not-so-successful Xperia Tablet S that it going to be called Xperia Tablet Z with a codename C690X Pollux.

The Tablet Z would be the second addition to the Xperia Tablet line-up and is expected to make an appearance at the MWC 2013 in Barcelona.

Following the premium specifications and build of the recently announced Xperia Z and ZL, the Tablet Z will reportedly pack a 10.1″ display with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, which isn’t the best, but still sounds pretty great.

Under the hood, the tablet will offer the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Another key spec is the dual cameras, an 8MP snapper at the back and 2.2MP at the front.

Just like its smaller brethren, the Xperia Tablet Z is rumored to be IP57-certified and will sport NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4 connectivity options. The juice for all this tech will be coming from the same 6,000mAh battery found in the Tablet S.

It all sounds lovely, but I strongly advise taking all of this information with a pinch of salt, since there hasn’t been any official hints regarding the tablet’s existence. However, the closer we are getting to MWC, the more information I expect to see about the Tablet Z.

UPDATE:NTT DoCoMo just brought the first official confirmation of the existence of the tablet. The Japanese carrier is going to hold a special series of events called Smartphone Lounge, where it will exhibit Sony offering like the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, and the Tablet Xperia Z on January 22. Let’s hope to get more information about the Tablet Z by then.
