Samsung Galaxy S5 gets premium perks in India, including free repair pickup

The Samsung Galaxy S5 saw some criticism from Indian customers due to its high initial retail price. After a healthy price drop, Samsung is hoping to make the Galaxy S5 even more enticing by offering free in-house pick-up for any repair work, as well as a one-time screen replacement for Galaxy S5 devices for just INR 990 ($17).

The new deal also includes the option of trading in and old smartphone for at least INR 10,000 ($169) credit towards the purchase of a Galaxy S5.

The ‘Pick-up & Drop’ care service will provide Indian customers with the ability to get a defective Samsung Galaxy S5 picked up from their home for repairs, while getting a “standby premium smartphone” to use over the course of the repair work. This doesn’t seem to apply to broken screens, however, as the company requires that you walk into an authorized service center to take advantage of the one-time screen replacement promotion.

The Galaxy S5 is currently the most affordable Android flagship in India amongst the major manufacturers, coming in at around INR 38,000 ($642). Compare this to the price of the HTC One (M8) and Sony Xperia Z2 at around INR 45,000 each ($760), and it seems like the Korean company is poised to make quite a killing on their latest Galaxy.

It’s unclear what sort of replacement phone you’ll be getting if you take advantage of the care service, or if certain phones will net you more than the minimum exchange value for trade-ins, so be sure to read the fine print before you decide to take advantage of one of these deals.
