Lenovo gives the new MacBook a run for its money with the new LaVie Z and LaVie Z 360 laptops

In the ever-so-dynamic race of everyday life, mobility has become one of the key aspects of our personal tech. Ultrabooks have definitely gotten a long way in this respect but while some, like Apple are achieving ultra-portability at the expense of performance, others, like Lenovo, prove that there is really no room for compromises in today’s tech world.

The LaVie Z and LaVie Z 360 are a true testament to this. Both laptops are incredibly compact and measure 12.56″ x 0.67″ x 8.35″. They are also incredibly light – the LaVie Z weighs in at 1.87 lbs for a base model, while the more-advanced LaVie Z 360, complete with a touchscreen and flappable hinge, starts at 2.04 lbs.

Cupertino’s latest MacBook weighs pretty much the same, but instead of a severely underpowered Core M processor, both LaVie Z models pack a fifth generation Core i7-5500U Broadwell CPU. The rest of the specs sheet includes up to 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, up to 256GB of solid state memory and a 13.3-inch panel with a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Prospective buyers will also be happy to learn that Lenovo hasn’t skipped on connectivity. Both models come with two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a combo headphone and mic jack and even an SD card reader. The couple also have a dedicated charging port, which, by itself, is more than the MacBook can boast in terms of connectivity.

The Lenovo LaVie Z and LaVie Z 260 are already available and will set you back $1,499 and $1.699 respectively. Pricing is a little steep, but with such hardware, packed inside an ultra-portable package with up to 9 hours of battery life, you can easily see what you are paying for.
