Jolla Tablet gets additional funding goals to finance new features

Today Jolla has announced three “stretch goals” for its already highly successful tablet project. If reached, these funding goals will allow the company to bake in some additional features for the tablet.

The Jolla Tablet, you may remember, is financed through crowdfunding. It’s been a great campaign so far, with the company initially asking for $380,000 and receiving pledges of more than $1 million in just two days.

As the money kept pouring in, the folks from Jolla were apparently thinking of how best to spend the cash that went over their initial goal. Hence these stretch goals were born. So, if the Jolla Tablet manages to raise $1.5 million, it will come with microSDHC support for cards up to 128GB. Currently it can only read cards that have a maximum of 32GB of storage on them.

If the crowdfunding campaign reaches $1.75 million, then the tablet will get a split screen mode for the Sailfish OS, allowing you to use two apps simultaneously, side by side. This apparently is the most requested software feature for the tablet in Jolla’s community.

And finally, if Jolla raises $2.5 million (or more) for the tablet, then it will offer a version with “3.5G” mobile data connectivity (which we assume means HSPA+) that will be just $30 more expensive than the Wi-Fi-only model.

Thanks for sending this in, Razar!
