Android, the alphabet and desserts: turning Flan into Froyo

Whoever comes up with the codenames for the Android releases sure has a sweet tooth. We’ve had Cupcakes, Donuts and Eclairs so far. As you can see, the Android developers like the alphabet as well as sweets. The sequel was rumored to be called Flan, but now there’s talk of it being called Froyo.

Before you make some weird associations with Lord of the Rings and Frodo, “Froyo” stands for FROzen YOgurt. Seems like someone over at Google has the “Desserts from A to Z” by their bedside.

And since the minor iteration Android v2.1 is still codenamed Eclair, Froyo should be reserved for some future update. All that is fine, but they seem to be missing a letter – if Android is the initial version, then we have A, C, D, E and now F. So where’s B? And what is it -Bear claw, Brownie or Butterscotch? I think I’ll have a dessert at lunch today.
