An unofficial patch adds 720p video capture to the Nexus One

When the Nexus One/HTC Desire were at the rumor stage, one of the impressive features they listed was 720p HD video recording. When the phones went official, that was cut down to D1 much to the disappointment of a lot of fans, including the ones at the XDA-Developers forums.

They are a resourceful bunch though, and there results is the patch for the popular Cyanogen mod, which enables 720p video capture on the Nexus One…

The patch works on rooted Nexus One units running the Cyanogen Mod CM5.0.8test3 and there’s a Froyo version coming along soon. Improved frame rate and audio quality are also on the To-Do list for charnsingh_online, the developer of the patch.

The video sample looks decent, considering the poor lightning conditions it was shot it.

To use the patch, you’ll need a rooted Nexus One, with the Cyanogen CM5.0.8test3 mod. An HTC Desire port for this patch is still uncertain at this point.
