Google boasts its SPDY networking protocol, is 23% faster than HTTP

Google has been so obsessed with speed that it has invented its own networking protocol designed to replace the good ol’ HTTP.

Chances are you are already a bit familiar with SPDY (not an acronym, but shortened for Speedy) as its been already put to use in Chrome, Firefox 13 beta and even as a module in Apache server.

But Google wants to entirely replace the HTTP protocol with its own SPDY. The company claims that page load times are on average 23% faster on the Galaxy Nexus. Furthermore, it reckons that 3G and 4G networks could be optimized even further for better results.

Google is on its way to standardizing SPDY, so don’t be surprised if it replaces HTTP entirely some day in the future.
