Japanese isn’t an easy language to learn and with the latest update to the iOS, Apple has tried to do just that. However, a Japanese iPhone user proves that Siri has needed a wee bit more time to study by pitching it against DoCoMo’s Syabette Concier.
For those of you who are unaware of Syabette Concier, it is what Siri is for Apple – DoCoMo’s developed personal assistant. So, let’s see how they get on when they face some Japanese phrases.
The first question asked to both voice-driven assistants is simple: “Is it cold outside?” and naturally they have no problems giving an adequate response.
The second one is “I have a stomach ache.” and is a bit tricky in its nature. DoCoMo’s Syabette Concier puts up information on nearby hospitals, while Siri doesn’t understand a word coming out of his month. Second attempt didn’t prove successful either.
Next up, the man asked the assistants to give him his schedule for tomorrow. Both did the job, but Siri pulled out a general schedule, while DoCoMo’s Syabette displayed only the schedule for tomorrow.
“Give me a map for Chigasaki.” was the next command, but as Siri is limited only to geographical information in the U.S., Syabette had an advantage here.
Now onto some internet search. “Look for videos of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.” proved to be a hard task for Siri, mainly because of the weird Japanese name this pop singer carries. Sayebette, on the other hand, is familiar with Japanese pop culture and did the job effortlessly.
Nama mugi nama gome nama tamago or “Raw wheat, raw rice, and fresh eggs.” confused Siri quite a bit, as well as “I want to cook some curry.”. As you’ve probably guessed, Syabette didn’t break any sweat.
And finally, to the “Wake me up tomorrow.” request both personal assistants did the job well. As it turns out, Siri isn’t quite ready yet to be a Japanese man personal electronic butler, compared to DoCoMo’s Syabette Cancier. That said, Siri was noticeably quicker in its responses than the domestic rival. I guess Siri will be in a Beta phase of development for quite some time.
Now that you know what’s happening in the video, take a look for yourself.
