SwiftKey for Android update brings much improved performance, 12 new languages

The SwiftKey third-party keyboard for Android has received a pretty hefty update today. The new version should already be available in the Google Play Store.

Its main claim to fame is the all-round improved performance. The time it takes for the keyboard to appear has been reduced, and the same can be said for the keyboard quit time too. Switching between fields is faster, and typing is said to be more responsive now as well.

The keyboard should appear around 15-20% faster than before, and it leaves the screen 20-30% faster. Switching between fields has received a 15-50% speed boost, and typing responsiveness has been improved by 10-18%. This means you will have a smoother experience when typing very fast, though even more enhancements are promised for the future.

Finally, the new SwiftKey has support for 12 additional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali, and Sinhala. This brings the total number of supported languages to 81.
