Twitter Offers launches giving you discounts through tweets

Moving steadily on with its newfound commerce focus, Twitter has today announced a new service called Twitter Offers. This basically means businesses can embed discount coupons into tweets, but redeeming them is easier than if you were to use actual coupons.

Twitter Offers comes after the Twitter Buy button started appearing for certain users, letting them buy stuff directly from tweets.

Offers enables advertisers to create card-linked promotions. If you see such a thing in your timeline, you can add the offer to your credit or debit card with just a few clicks or taps. Since the discount is tied to your card, to redeem the offer you only need to use that same card when buying the item or items at the store. And that’s it – no coupons to fiddle with. The cash back savings will appear on your credit card statement within a few days from the purchase.

Because of the way the system works, you’ll see both offers for online stores as well as ones for offline, brick-and-mortar establishments. All that matters is for you to claim a discount, tie it to a certain card, and then use that exact card to make the purchase.

Twitter Offers will start rolling out during the holidays, and it’s going to be US-only for the foreseeable future. Twitter will work with “a handful of brands” to test the new feature, after which it should be made available to more advertisers.
