Toshiba has finally started selling the Android-based Thrive tablet that they have been showing us for quite some time now, or at least started taking pre-orders. The Thrive will be sold in three models, 8GB for $429.99, 16GB for $479.99 and 32GB for $579.99.
The Toshiba Thrive has a 10-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution. It runs on NVIDIA Tegra 2 and Android 3.1 Honeycomb. It has a 5 megapixel camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front, HDMI-out, USB port, mini USB port, SD card slot, stereo speakers, replaceable back covers and for the first time on a tablet, a replaceable battery.
In terms of accessories you get covers in multiple colors, a dock with all the connectivity ports available on the tablet and a case that also lets you keep the Thrive at an angle for watching videos.
Of all the Android tablets that have come out so far, this is the best I’ve seen. Features like a standard size HDMI port, USB port, SD card slot and replaceable battery set it apart from the others and the pricing is competitive as well. Unfortunately, there is no 3G version available so far, which could hurt its sales.
The Toshiba Thrive is expected to go on sale by mid-July.
