If you’re running an HTC Evo 4G on US Sprint’s network you can get your spoons out and prepare for Froyo dessert. Starting on 3 August (next Tuesday), the Android 2.2 update will begin rolling out bring some tasty new features to the uber-smarphone…
The HTC Evo 4G combines the 4.3” screen of the HD2 with a more modern OS and bolts on WiMAX connectivity for good measure. Not to mention the 8MP camera that can record 720p video.
Obviously, Android 2.2 Froyo will bring faster overall performance to the already speedy 1GHz Snapdragon CPU including improved JavaScript performance in the browser. Speaking of the browser, the other major update in Froyo in the Flash support. Other goodies are installing apps on the microSD card, voice dialing over Bluetooth and improved camera interface.
The update will be released in waves – starting 3 August, users will begin seeing notifications that there’s a new firmware available. Once the download is complete, the phone will prompt you to start the update.
Impatient users can force the update – go to Settings Menu > System Updates > HTC Software Update and that will download the update even if you haven’t received a notification. It won’t work before 3 August though.
