Sony QX lens-style cameras updated with 1080p video recording

This year at IFA Sony unveiled the unique QX line of lens-style cameras and they’re getting their first update. As you may remember they had some issues – for one they could shoot video at 1,440 x 1,080 but not widescreen. The firmware update fixes that and adds proper 1,920 x 1,080p video recording mode.

The update also adds more manual controls and boosts the ISO range.

The high-end camera, the Sony QX100, receives a Shutter priority mode – you can set the shutter speed to anything from 30 to 1/2000 seconds. The QX100 ISO range goes from 160-3200 to 160-12800.

The QX10 ISO range was improved too, from 160-1600 to 160-3200.

The Sony PlayMemories Mobile app that is used to control the two lens-style cameras (from either an Android or an iOS device) was updated too. It now takes half as long to connect to the QX cameras and not has an embedded photo browser.
