Sony goes through nine features of its Xperia Z3 family

Sony seems to be very proud of the three members in its recently unveiled Xperia Z3 family of devices – the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact. To prove this once more, the Japanese company has now published an article which outlines nine individual features that can be found across the three devices.

These are all things you might not have known about, according to Sony. So let’s go through them.

To start off, Sony takes a subtle jab at Apple, saying that its devices have supported NFC since 2012, starting with the Xperia S. Next up, if you use Sony headphones, these will be automatically recognized by either Z3. If for some reason that fails, you can also manually pick which Sony headphone you’re currently using, and get optimized audio quality.

Video recording got a Pause button, so you don’t necessarily have to use Stop. And you can record a video of what you’re doing on-screen, going further than using mere screenshots. The Quick Settings also get a mention, as does the devices’ battery life (combined with Sony’s Stamina mode).

Smart screen rotation is name-dropped too, though in this case Samsung should probably let Sony know who had that feature first. And continuing with the Samsung-inspired theme, gestures let you silence an incoming call by turning your Z3 or Z3 Compact on its face. Alternatively, you can answer a call by simply bringing the phone up to your ear, no other input necessary. Oh, and smart backlight control will keep the screen on while you’re looking at it. And there’s double-tap to wake too (the one thing in this paragraph that doesn’t come from Samsung).

Finally, your Z3 series device can automatically unlock when a SmartBand or SmartBand Talk is in close proximity to it. Furthermore, this can work with any Bluetooth accessory.

That’s it. To read the detailed list, head on over to Sony’s post. To learn more about the Z3 family, make sure you read our hands-on from IFA.
