Sony and Panasonic will be terminating their joint venture for developing OLED television screens. The farewell decision comes on the back of some poor financial quarters for both the firms in the recent times.
Both Japanese manufacturers will now focus on building their own conventional liquid crystal display, which will be used for the increasingly popular 4K ultra high definition televisions.
Sony and Panasonic joined forces in June 2012 with an initiative of developing their own mass-production-ready OLED panels by the end of 2013. However, the alliance could not meet their target date and in turn resulted in the dissolution. The highlight of the partnership was the announcement of the 56-inch OLED television, a first of its kind product, back at Consumer Electronics Show in January.
