Samsung to release two compacts with great bang-for-buck value – the PL20 and ES80

Samsung is aiming at the masses with its PL20 and ES80 budget compacts. The 14 megapixel PL20 (picture below) is the better of the two with a 27mm wide-angle lens and 720p video recording at 24 fps. It offers 5x optical zoom, all this in a compact point-and-shoot body of the reasonable 20mm thick body.

The lesser model ES80 has a 12 megapixels sensor and drops the HD video for an intuitive face detection system that can recognize and focus on 10 different faces at a time. All the other specs are the same as with the PL20.

Samsung will release both compacts in 4 of colors – Silver, Tomato Red, Pink and Black – to meet the taste of all interested buyers – young and old. Prices are $199.99 for the PL20 and $99.99 for the ES80. They will hit the shelves in March and April, respectively.
