The KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom started rolling out back in July, but it amazingly managed to so far not make it to AT&T’s version of the device. Only now, many months later, can we report that the Galaxy S4 Zoom sold by AT&T is in the process of receiving the new software.
Of course, KitKat isn’t the latest version of Android anymore. Though given the fact that this is the first ever update that AT&T’s S4 Zoom has gotten, we wouldn’t bet on it seeing Android 5.0 Lollipop anytime soon.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom was launched by AT&T last November, running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. And now it jumps straight to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, with no interim update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for whatever reason. Unfortunately the carrier hasn’t issued a changelog for the new bits, preferring to simply state that Android 4.4.2 is the new version the device will run after it’s been updated.
Speaking of which, after applying the update you’ll be on build C105A_KKUCUBNI1, for what it’s worth. The normal cautions about over-the-air rollouts are valid in this case too, so if you haven’t yet been notified about the update being available to download and install, you shouldn’t panic – it will probably take a few days for it to reach all handsets. That said, AT&T curiously lists the update’s release date as November 28, so you probably won’t be waiting long.
