It is not often we see a price hike for consoles but it has happened in Canada. According to the Toronto Sun, Sony will be hiking the price of the PlayStation 4 console from $399.99 to $449.99.
According to Sony, the price hike is “to respond to changes in the market environment”, although it is likely due to the weak Canadian dollar compared to its US counterpart, which makes it harder for companies to sustain profit without a price hike.
Along with the console, the prices of accessories as well as games is also being increased. Games have already gone from $59.99 to $64.99 for both the PS4 as well as the Xbox One and the upcoming PS4 exclusive Infamous: Second Son will be priced at $69.99.
The PS4 has outsold the Xbox One until now but with the price gap being reduced and Microsoft bundling Titanfall with its console, those on the fence might just prefer to go with Microsoft’s offering.
