Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel debuted the Edison, “a full Pentium-class PC” at CES and here’s the kicker: it’s the size of an SD card.
What’s even more impressive is the list of specs for the computer’s tiny size: it has a dual-core Quark SOC, Bluetooth, and WiFi all jammed into the tiny package. The Edison runs on Linux and even has its own app store that Intel specifically designed for its little computer. The Edison will also come with a special version of Wolfram out of the box.
Speaking of “the box” it’s uncertain as to whether or not the Edison will be sold as a device for general consumers in mind. The device is intended for developers and “tinkerers” around the world. But so is Raspbery Pie and it’s been doing great so far.
Intel reinforced this idea with their “Nursery 2.0″ concept. They showcased a Mimo Onesie outfitted with the Edison. In the concept, the lilliputian computing unit was able to track temperature to make sure the baby was comfortable. They were able to display the baby’s stats on a coffee mug. A blinking green light showing a happy face meant that the baby was comfortable. A red blinking light showing a sad face means that the baby isn’t content.
They also demoed another cool concept: the Edison being able to turn a bottle warmer on when the baby began to move around crankily, pre-empting his/her meal.
